They're going for the prize here in Class 1A.
A hundred-year anniversary state championship trophy, and the 1A title match -- it's the 3rd seeded Janesville Wildcats taking on the Eagles of Ankeny Christian, who's the top seed.
Hi again everyone, with Dr.
Joanna Settles.
This is BJ Schaben and here we go.
The final title match of the day.
And this one is going.
Really good against two teams that really don't give up a whole lot.
They don't.
And what's intriguing about this matchup is how different these two teams are.
Ankeny Christian serves a lot of aces, and Janesville has outstanding middle hitters.
Well, the lights aren't getting turned out just yet for Janesville.
As we look at their resume.
15th trip to state.
They were runners up a year ago and look out for their senior.
Tayah Pollock is a four year starter.
She can really distribute the ball.
She can.
But it's the super sophomore Quinn Sweeney who leads the team in kills.
She already has over 500.
Now for Ankeny Christian, this team just doesn't quit.
110 all time here at the state tournament.

Yes, it's weathers and digs.
Dolbeare and kills.

All right, who's ready to win a state championship?
He can get him going, can't he?
Tim Fitzpatrick on the public address here tonight.
And how would you draw up the keys for each of these two teams?
Janesville needs to establish the middle attack.
They're so good with Sweeney and Meaney, and they want to stay in system to get them the ball.
Ankeny Christian expect them to serve aggressively, and they need to adjust and attack down the line and stay away from those middle blockers.
Well, here we go.
Ankeny Christian they've been here before.
Again, we saw they won state championships one three from 22 to 24.
Took a year off.
And here they are in 2026 for Janesville, a school that's been tradition rich going for their sixth state title.
They advanced rather easily all the way through here to the state championship.
They've been hitting 298 at the state tournament.
They'll be wearing the white uniforms with black numbers trimmed in yellow.
And for Ankeny Christian, they're navy blue with white numbers trimmed in black.
So the lineup's getting set and checked by our R2.
Chris Armstrong, Jovan s your R one as this will cap off.
What a day of state championship volleyball all started with Waukee Northwest winning the 5A state title.
Norwalk outlasting Clear Creek Amana in the 4A 3A Western Christian prevailed and in the 2A match.
Oh, what a barn burner we had.
As it was Beckman Catholic beating Hinton in five sets.
So it's Ankeny Christian and Janesville to wrap up the state volleyball tournament here from Coralville and the opening serve.
We're in it in the big swing on the outside is going to be long.
Hayden Anderson gave it a good crack, but an attack error and Ankeny Christian will get the first point here of the 1A title match up.
Yes, Ankeny Christian you see Davis look to the side for her instruction to keep them out of system so they can't hit a hard ball.
They get one back.
Weathers with a great up there as that one is tipped to the back, they'll set things up.
They'll go to the middle and they're is Lauren Meaney.
Lauren Meaney the 510 junior.
She was outstanding yesterday and when I talked to coach Shelly Sorensen after their win last night.
Everybody talks about Sweeney.
But she was so proud of Meaney for performing so well.
Back at it.
This will be put into play by Hovenga.
Now the strike back by quick.
They'll set up their middle and there she is.
Quinn Sweeney.
Hello.
There's the super sophomore.
Yes, she's six four, but she transitions quickly.
They want to get her the ball as much as they can.
Yeah.
Came into this state championship match hitting at 361.
Leads the team with over 300 kills.
Go off of the back to Porter.
And Janesville is running right ahead.
Up 3 to 1.
Last year.
Ankeny Christian there has to control the pass.
They don't want to be in a joust at the net because they will not have the advantage.
They go up to the middle again and another kill for Quinn Sweeney.
That one she power tips.
It goes straight down.
What trajectory by her.
And a time-out going to be taken quickly by Michele Quick and Ankeny Christian.
For one Janesville jetting out to the early lead here on Ankeny Christian.

For one Wildcats on the advantage.
And I would say they established their middles.
You ended up as a key.
They established him pretty well.
They do, and they don't ever take a break.
It's Sweeney for three rotations and then it's Sweeney for three rotations.
Off the side, difficult attempt there.
And here's an opportunity for Ankeny Christian.
That was set up by Davis.
And a good attack and a side out for the Eagles.
There it comes.
Hard to the back line trying to save it.
Good effort.
Ankeny Christian has dropped just ten sets all season.
They've been dominant and so has she.
Quinn Sweeney.
I don't know if Ankeny Christian has an answer for that.
So they'll have to do everything they can to force Janesville to set their outside pins.
Ankeny Christian trying to set up some offense here as that shot by Breese Bentz.
A little short.
It is.
I like the aggressiveness right.
You don't want to give them a free ball because you know what's going to happen.
So you might as well attack it.
Ken Janesville being able to spread their offense around as quick does a dump.
That's where that's where she's been so dangerous all season long.
Has Gabby Quick been.
Look at the freshman.
She's practiced that many times.
Reminds me of her older sister right there, Katie Quick, who was so good at that as well.
And Katie now playing at Drake.
Now a swing by Anderson.
Good up.
Quick to the outside.
That's Norbert.
Ankeny Christian firing back with back to back points.
Dolbeare, the six foot sophomore outside hitter.
She can fly so they need to set her off an.
Quick attack this side.
How about the setter?
Tayah Pollock right back at you.
The four year starter.
Tayah Pollock such a nice job there again, everyone cheating towards the middle, knowing that Quinn Sweeney will probably get it and she catches the defense of Ankeny Christian.
Joust at the net and there's a great.
Up by Weathers.
Big attack.
And Janesville will get the point.
Yes, net violation there on nearing, which is unfortunate because they dug up that ball by Sweeney.
Back to a four point advantage.
Now Dolbeare went up top with it and again a big strike by Sweeney Gilbert off of hands.
Go back to the outside quick.
Left it for Daubert and it turned out to be pretty effective.
It was.
That's not ideal.
That's not exactly where Havana Dolbeare wants it.
The set was too close to the net.
Here she has to use her left hand and tips it in for a point.
Earlier this year, if you're wondering.
Okay, Ankeny Christian the competition, who did you play to get those 40 wins throughout the season?
They won five weekend tournaments as that one is blocked back by the Eagles.
And and as part of those tournament runs, they had a streak in which they beat Aplington-Parkersburg Grundy Center, who has the sixth eight.
Ryan Brubaker, who's going to Marquette.
So they have faced some size before.
In fact, they had a 27 match winning streak during the regular season.
It was one of those streaks where they just would not go away.
Find themselves though, down here by three.
Yes.
For those Saturday tournaments playing up in classes definitely challenges you.
The state knows you're playing up even if you get a loss, but they went in there and took care of business.
Out of system as Janesville will now have to hurry.
Quick attack from the outside dug up by Weathers.
Gobert just couldn't sky high enough.
And back up by four goes Janesville.
Yes.
And that outside hitter for Janesville was Honor Hovenga.
She does a nice job.
She's got a little hang time.
Now Danica Brinkman.
Oh terrific.
Serve quick off of the slide.
And this is going to be four hits.
Ankeny Christian will get the side out.
You have to stay low and quick.
If you are playing short on defense there for Janesville, because quick will take that second ball over often.
Back at it.
Janesville little roll shot kept up two one after.
At that time, Janesville right back to the middle.
Excellent defense right there by Ankeny Christian to keep that alive.
Will play the point here with quick coming back.
Great up by Bloes.
And again the Eagles strike and this is still alive.
Will play for the point.
Quick leaves it to the middle.
That's blocked back down.
What a point here.
Out of system.
And that's just heart to heart of it.
Tap by nearing and Janesville goes back up by four.
Tough way to end that one for Ankeny Christian.
But both teams making terrific plays not letting that ball hit the court.
Yes a long volley.
So many well-played balls.
Quick, will give Porter a swing.
And a violation on Janesville.
Nice attack by Malia Porter, but love the quick hands of Gabby.
Quick setting for Ankeny Christian.
She releases so quickly.
So that'll be good to challenge the defense, especially the middle blockers for Janesville, and make them go left to right on both ends of the pin.
Quick comes back here to the near side and that's blocked.
But out.
Terrific.
Swing by breeze.
Bent is.
And that's using that entire left to right side of the pin as they go to the right side there for the kill.
So Carmen Lambert serves.
And that one did not break the plane of the net.
And so here's Ankeny Christian within one.
It is such a difference not to have Quinn Sweeney in that front row, isn't it?
It is Janesville.
It is.
And Meaney does well.
But she's such a difference maker and disrupts the offense of every team they play.
And we are going to be tied at 11, a four point run here by Ankeny Christian.
Right.
And look for them to continue to score, especially like you said, with Sweeney on the bench.
And a net violation called against the Eagles.
We've seen a few of those tonight.
Is that jitters or what is it.
You know they're just standing an inch too close which is too bad.
I did like the offense there.
By Janesville.
They come in with a quick tandem with Meaney, and they bring Hovenga on the right side.
So a nice offensive set by them.
Quick will come here to the near side.
Defense.
Great combination of Quick and Bentz on the right side.
And Ankeny Christian will sub in Davis to serve.
Yes.
And just like that we're back to rotation number one for the Eagles.
Put up by Pollock swing.
And that got in.
Oh my.
Hayden Anderson.
She went with the pink hair.
She's so confident.
I love her senior leadership.
And right there she turns hits the line for the point.
And they keep the serve.
Off the rotation.
Quinn Sweeney in that front row.
Out of system opportunity for the Eagles.
This is quick.
Blocked back by Sweeney.
We talked about hitting line.
And that's the reason why if you hit cross court here there's the double block.
And that's all the excitement there by Quinn Sweeney with the big block.
And now an ace Lauren Meaney.
And here come the Wildcats on a run.
Quick with the high tap.
Swing punched away.
And they go cross again.
It's blocked back.
Quick.
Tried to tap it over.
As Ankeny Christian has slipped into a six two here.
They need to be more strategic with their tips because they need to score on those.
That's just too easy for Janesville.
Anderson's punch blocked back.
Oh, how about that?
Danny Craighead and freeze Bentz combining on the block.
Pence is fired up.
Here it comes.
Outside set.
There's that double block by 13 and tens.
And pence loves it.
Big side out Anderson with the big swing.
No touch.
That's Anderson.
She's a big go big or go home.
She likes a big swing.
She'll come right back and get a big kill out of that.
So Coach Sorensen allows her team to play free to play together, and that doesn't faze him.
Off the the tip up as Sweeney just pounds that one in.
Of course, when you have that coming your next play, you can play pretty loose.
1614 Janesville has had a couple of four point advantages in this match, and they'll get an ace here.
Zwanziger goes to the back line and gets an ace.
That's kind of the Ankeny Christian way, and Janesville placing it so well.
Somaiya again will serve.
Quick to the outside.
That's dolbeare blocked, but in.
I think Janesville sending a message when you try to cross swing.
As the six foot four sophomore Quinn Sweeney has been there.
She has.
Look for them to continue to go to Dolbeare.
They do now as she tries to go deep.
Good up that time by Hovenga.
And the Wildcats go up by five here.
Yes, this first pass, this first contact is so important so they can get it to Gabby quick.
They want to go outside and it needs to be a nice ball that gets all the way out to the pin so that she can turn and hit line.
That's an ace.
The purest of aces.
Oh, they're riding the wave.
They've got a six point lead in the opening set.
The Wildcats trying to make a statement here in the Class 1A state championship.
Seam ball right in between them.
Well placed.
On the bench.
The energy bringing it.
The worm.
20 to 14.
Janesville with the advantage.
And no doubt Sweeney has made her presence felt not only on the attack, but just defensively.
Such a stalwart.
Yeah, she is a difference maker because she disrupts the offense of every team that they play against.
So Ankeny Christian have to stay focused and try to place every pass, every set, every attack away from her.
And that's not easy to do.
The fans have been filing in here all week at the state volleyball tournament, and Coralville and Coralville for the city has done an amazing job again, year in, year out.
Year number five.
It's it's a it's an event.
It's a pink out.
The restaurants to the hotels, everything in between.
And what a great year to celebrate it.
And that's another ace.
Oh.
The largest lead here in the opening set for Janesville.
And how about Myah Zwanziger.
Just dialing it up as the junior.
Back to back aces.
And there's a smile that'll break out.
Important to get a good pass here and get back in system.
Big swing by Dolbeare.
Talk about big swings.
There's one right there for Quinn Sweeney.
And you can see the height difference and how much that matters.
There's not a big block.
How many people do you bring up to block do you bring?
I've seen them go against a triple block, but Sweeney can do it all against whoever you give her.
But when when there's an ace, I mean, Zwanziger is having a run right now.
Of course, Sweeney up front makes it happen.
So she's serving with all sorts of confidence.
Three aces now.
Shelly Sorensen, the head coach for Janesville.
Calm, cool and collected and a service error.
But what a run for Janesville and Zwanziger to put him two points away from taking this opening set.
Yes, a sigh of relief, but Ankeny Christian to actually get to rotate, see if they can put together a few points.
Joust at the net.
Dobert nearly took that one.
Sweeney good up by Ankeny Christian and Davis will go to Sweeney again.
The change up effective.
With someone as strong of a hitter as Quinn Sweeney, what can she work on with her game?
She continues to use that off speed to keep the defense guessing.
So a nice job to mix things up by her.
Set point.
Dolbeare.
Now quick to the outside.
Dolbeare again just couldn't climb the ladder.
And that'll be it for the opening set.
What a statement.
Janesville after coming up short a year ago, comes out and wins the opening set by ten.

On the fun of college wrestling, it's returning to Iowa PBS.
As we look at the schedule ahead.
How about the women's match up to get us started?
Iowa and Watford.
Then followed by a high school match.
Don Bosco versus Dowling Catholic and Oklahoma City at Grandview and Naia.
Matchup in women's wrestling.
Men's wrestling at Wartburg.
Then you've got Loras at Central, and to close it out on February the 10th, Coe College will be at Cornell.
Don't forget the state high school wrestling championships for.
The girls will be right here in Coralville.
As Janesville and Ankeny Christian as Dr.
Joanna Settles on B.J.
Schaben.
Yeah.
This event, this arena extreme arena is hopping has been all week.
And it does the same for the girls State Wrestling championships.
And they just keep you going here.
Yes.
It's so exciting.
Girl sports are doing so well of course.
So fun to celebrate 100 years of the girls union.
But Janesville we talked about them establishing their middle attackers early.
And how about Quinn Sweeney, the sophomore coming out in set one with eight kills, but also so impressive.
Myah Zwanziger with four service aces, four in a set is impressive.
Let's see what sort of adjustments that Michele Quick and Ankeny Christian will make.
They've been able to do it on the fly, and this is a very, very young Ankeny Christian team.
But they they pay attention inside of those huddles.
And Coach Quick been here before again three state championships.
Their first one had to go five sets for them to win it.
As we're back into action, the opening point here of the second set, Anderson gave it a shot a little too strong.
Ankeny Christian will take the early lead, right.
They adjust by not hitting cross.
They tip up over.
But this setter for Janesville is right there.
So Pollock takes it and then Anderson swings too deep.
So just take care of the ball.
If you're Ankeny Christian.
Pollock left it for Sweeney and there's kill number nine.
I mean, she was hitting over 600 now on the night is Sweeney her team hitting below 200.
This first pass crucial.
Quick will leave it for Dolbeare.
That's blocked back by Meaney.
And did they get a touch?
There is a touch.
There's definitely confusion.
Coach Sorensen and Sweeney are confused by that one.
So two one your score is that hit hands high from Dolbeare.
Now Katelyn Weathers.
Yes.
Excuse me.
This is where Ankeny Christian needs to be aggressive.
Aggressive with their serve.
Pollock will leave it up for Anderson blocked back.
How about that?
At the net?
A solo lift nearing.
That's what that aggressive serve does.
They're not able to set Sweeney in the middle.
They go outside and there's the double block.
Nice job of pressing and keeping it in bounds.
Nearing at five eight.
Able to climb up and grab it.
And that's going to be an overpass.
Big time as it goes out.
And Ankeny Christian jets to a three point advantage.
And that's 3 or 2 times now that they cannot get the ball to the middle, they continue to be impressive with that.
A great adjustment after the first set.
Leave it for Sweeney and why not the hot hand all tournament long has been Quinn Sweeney.
Side out Janesville.
Yes, that time she tapped it strong, tipped it strong to the open area.
Quick to the block.
Back.
They'll go to Sweeney again.
Out of system.
Pollock.
The Eagles attack.
No touch and attack error and Janesville back within one.
Yeah.
Good line defense by Ankeny Christian, but the adjustment to swing line was a good idea, but more difficult to execute.
Anderson Service error.
How about Katelyn Weathers right there.
The libero for the Eagles.
So pumped up.
I mean she jumped really high trying to get her team fired up here in set number two.
Oh she is a terrific catcher as she brings a lot of energy.
Does Weathers.
And you know that's one of the things you'll see out of Ankeny Christian.
As is the fact that this team never seems to get down.
As you see that one Obenga able to get the kill.
Yes, a great job hitting through the seam of that block.
At the net.
And they might have been in the net, but Ankeny Christian would get the point regardless.
Yes, Meaney didn't transition enough.
She wasn't sure where the ball was, so she's apologized to her teammates for not going up to joust that one.
Dolbeare.
Serve receive for Janesville.
Knock on some wood here has been really good tonight.
Is that one.
Did it hit hands?
No.
No touch.
And it's a one point set here.
It was.
It was a good aggressive serve by Dolbeare.
But they couldn't get a kill.
Out of Tayah Pollock.
That one set too tight to the net, making it difficult to attack.
Well.
Had to go out of system.
Now, how about this, Malia Porter checking in.
And Ankeny Christian very well aware that Sweeney is out of the game.
And they're trying to piece together a few points so they can have a lead before she returns.
Pollock will leave it up.
Goes to the back row.
Anderson with the swing.
Quick to the outside.
That's off of hands as Porter.
The five seven freshman will get another kill.
So well executed.
That's what we're talking about.
To be able to get the ball right to the setter so they can set it all the way out to the pin and get to get get a good swing on the outside.
And the kill right back side out.
As Lauren Meaney.
Able to earn that.
Hovenga.
And serve out.
Oh, a little indecision, but it was long.
It was.
She said it, and her mind knew it before her hand went up with the flag.
Back to a three point advantage.
Evelyn Davis, serving and then setting in this six two offense of the Eagles.
Big swing and effective swing for Janesville.
Hayden Anderson came in with over 200 kills, led the team in attempts, and is starting to get that swing down.
Yes, she lets loose.
I like it.
Quick Anderson there.
Pollock goes right back to Anderson and guess what?
She went deep and found it.
Yes, Anderson on the right side.
We've seen her in the back row on the left side now on the right side with a big swing for a point.
And a service error.
As off of that rotation by the way, when when they got the Side out Quinn Sweeney able to enter and is in that front line again.
There's already a half a rotation by the Janesville miss serve.
So advantage Ankeny Christian on that one.
We'll go to Sweeney.
Ankeny Christian able to get the up.
And a violation.
Double hit called against Janesville and the Eagles will go back up by three.
Yes, look for Ankeny Christian to get that ball outside to Dolbeare and see if she can hit the line.
The Eagles are flying here, leading it by four.
Janesville taking the opening set.
In case you're joining us late and shame on you.
They won it by 1025 to 15.
Quinn Sweeney has been dominating for the Wildcats ten kills already.
See if they go to her here they go to the outside.
Anderson.
And Ankeny Christian unable to catch up with it.
Side out Wildcats.
Hayden Anderson again showing what a big swing that she has and that they are more balanced than you might think.
The Janesville squad is.
What's been interesting for Ankeny Christian this year when they have lost a set only ten sets they've lost this season.
The following set.
They've come back with a win.
They're in shape right now as they go up 13 to 9.
And that's Gabby.
Quick everybody eyes in the back of her head.
Yes.
That's the second time she's had that setter dump.
She goes up.
It looks like she's setting and she drops it right in on the defense.
Notice that the ball was passed in a little bit, which gave her some extra court space.
Battle at the net.
Did it get over?
No.
And out.
Havana Dolbeare is listed as the tallest player for Ankeny Christian at six feet.
You're right.
They can't get into a joust at the net.
No, no, you're not winning that one.
Most likely.
And Dolbeare is on the outside.
So she is there with a nice cross court swing.
Can't get that one to fall.
Well, we speak of joust and the Wildcats are going to get it.
They're going to say a net violation committed by Ankeny Christian.
And I think they're gonna say Gabby Quick might have had her foot on the line.
Yes it was quick call to the net coach quick disappointed in that one and doesn't agree.
That was tied again.
Dolbeare that time went down the line.
She has incredible hops.
That's what they need to do.
That's the magic for them.
It's even a bump set.
She goes right down the line and stays away of the Sweeney block and scores for the Eagles.
Tipping over.
And it's effective as Ankeny Christian could not get set for it.
There's the tip.
The defense behind it.
Does it say I'm here.
And so it's tipped away.
Danica Brinkman Gobert again goes down the line and it's working now.
Nice job.
A great assist on that one.
A quick release a shorter set and Dolbeare so quick and such good springs that she can run that quick set.
I like that.
Six kills so far for Havana.
Dolbeare has four digs as well.
Roll shot.
It pays off for Janesville.
How about that?
Hovenga yes, the off speed works well.
Off the block drops right in.
Difficult to know where it's going to go and it falls.
Out of Pollock.
Service errors here in the second set for Janesville.
They had five aces to Janesville in that opening set, and just one service error.
Yes, Carmen Lamberts, the sophomore defensive specialist serving again.
Oh great decision.
A business decision if you will is the block.
Was there but Hovenga went up high.
Lambert's one and done a good effort there.
A little dolphin dive.
Can't keep it up.
And here's honor.
Quick will go to the outside.
Great.
Up and a great down, if you will.
By Danae Craighead.
How about the freshman?
The 510 middle hitter.
Wise play.
Everyone's on the right side.
She goes up to redirect.
It's open on the left and she drops one in.
Back at it.
Good.
Up that time by Davis.
Out of system here for Janesville.
Anderson just couldn't get underneath of it.
Right.
That ball was set at ten feet.
Not ideal for your hitters.
And Ankeny Christian forcing Janesville to take a time out here as they lead it by four in the second set as they try to tie it up, well, stay connected with Iowa PBS sports.

Just like those fans.
And you got Eagles here too as well.
The Eagles Nest is fired up.
And loaded up with some caffeine.
Until they have to go to school in the morning.
It is Thursday.
Yes, still have school tomorrow.
Well, Ankeny Christian here in the second set.
What adjustments did they make to give themselves this opportunity here to be up by five?
They came out serving tougher and and Janesville was not able to set the middle as much.
And so that's been big.
They've also been able to score.
My favorite play is that line shot by Dolbeare.
Pollock leaves it up for Anderson.
An overpass.
Let's see if Janesville can work with it.
Anderson yes she can.
Another kill for her.
Anderson now with five.
Yes, that's that big swing.
She goes sharp.
Cross court and it gets gets it.
Davis trying to lay that one in now to Anderson.
I don't think that cross the net.
And we are going to get a whistle here from Chris Armstrong.
The R2 said yeah that one did not cross.
So the whistle blown and the point awarded to Ankeny Christian.
Yes, he was sure.
Those are hard to call for the upper up and down ref goes.
It happens fast.
It's so close to the tape.
There's a block there.
Good placement.
Back row attack.
Just not enough on it.
20 to 15 yes.
We talked about hitting those deep corners and Dolbeare does a nice job.
It's not hard hit but well placed and causes an error by the Janesville Wildcats.
Pollock.
And that one went around the antenna.
So.
Ankeny Christian takes their largest lead here at six.
Yes, from the top.
We've talked about the serving of Ankeny Christian and what it can do.
And a time-out going to be taken here by Janesville 2115.
Let's go inside of that Janesville huddle.
Here's her head coach, Shelly Sorensen.
And that's okay, because we can fix that.
Right?
So let's just go back and do our thing right here.
Let them here sneak off.
Yes.
You guys shake those off.
You're doubting yourselves right now.
And you cannot do that.
You know you're better than them.
But you got to perform right.
So shake those off.
We gotta close the gap here.
Okay.
Get momentum going because you know, momentum swings it back and forth.
They've got to go in right now.
There's one way to stop that.
Got it.
Let's go.
Zero zero right now zero zero on 3123.
Go three in a row three in a row.
Let's go.
Shelly Sorensen has seen it and done it before winning numerous state championships.
Just trying to get her team back into it.
How would you break down the conversation there.
Just to relax, play good volleyball.
Don't doubt yourself, she said.
There and try to get three in a row.
That's a good.
Those are those mini games within a game.
We'll see what they can do with this first pass.
And of course, the longtime assistant Todd Bengen, also in the huddle as Anderson able to get it across.
They'll reset defensively.
But here comes Dobert.
And that time the block not as effective covering up as she did across swing.
Dolbeare soaring in the air and cuts that one and powers it through the block.
She's the key for them.
And they go back to Sweeney sitting on 11 kills.
Eagles able to handle it at that time.
Sweeney again, this time just pure power.
It is Avalon Davis.
She had a great dig on the first one.
And then here comes Sweeney right back.
Defense is difficult to play, especially when six four is hitting it at you from the other side.
And the service error by Janesville.
Look at the steadiness of Ankeny Christian.
They've played smart.
They haven't had a ton of kills, but they're keeping the ball in play.
Even if they have to tip it, they're placing it wisely.
Sweeney this time it'll be up by Davis.
Sorensen blocked back Sweeney again.
Tag teaming on that one.
We'll move to 2317.
When two people jumped, they both get credit for it.
It doesn't matter if they both touch it or not.
So she gets the assist there.
Weathers will have to track that one down opportunity.
Sweeney called for it as she got it back.
Battle at the net.
Oh, terrific play by Brinkman and capping it off as Quinn Sweeney.
Here come the Wildcats.
Live nearing the junior.
She's five eight for Ankeny Christian.
That's a big ask for her.
Gilbert put back into play.
Goes again.
To set it out further.
Three straight times and touched every time by Janesville.
And that time Sweeney could not rotate back enough.
And we're at set point here for Ankeny Christian.
Yes, Sweeney should have.
She knows.
Coach Sorensen said it before I was able to say it.
But use your hands on that.
Get it to your setter transition and then come back and get a kill.
And an ace to end the second set.
We are tied at one.
Gabby quick with the ace and Ankeny Christian has knotted it up after taking down Janesville here in the second 25 to 18, we will go to the third when we return.

Guess what?
The event sold out in under two minutes.
That's right.
100 and 20s.
You'll want to be first in line for this event coming up next year.
Well here are the sports championships coming up here on Iowa PBS.
Don't forget we'll be in the dome coming up on November 19th and 20th for the high school football championships, followed by girls wrestling on February the 5th here in Coralville.
Then the boys wrestling on the 20th state girls basketball back at Casey Center on March 5th and the sixth boys basketball and Ames on March 12th, and then the state softball tournament.
We go to Fort Dodge for the annual classic there in late July.
Well, Ankeny Christian has held up to their standard of not dropping back to back sets all season.
They've tied it up at one apiece with Dr.
Joanna Settles on B.J.
Schaben here on Iowa PBS.
Hope you're enjoying the coverage all day of these state championships as we have the opening point here of the third set, and it belongs to Ankeny Christian.
Ankeny Christian.
A beautiful line shot.
It all started with the impressive, intense serve.
This is Evelyn Davis.
She'll serve again and try to keep him out of system again.
They went to Bree's fence to get that opening kill.
Anderson's roll.
Davis with the hustle and it pays off.
Tanny.
Craighead, what a nice job.
It's the tip over.
It's saved and pressed over and drops in on the defense.
These defenses have been well.
Each team heading below 150 now on the night for the match.
Quick has to down ball that one over.
Went to the middle.
Yeah that one got in Side out Janesville.
What are we seeing here?
I think there may be a cut on the arm of Hovenga.
On her hand.
Yeah.
Finger injury that they'll take care of.
I have to have a quick pause.
I believe there's some blood on the court.
Okay.
The R2, Chris Armstrong clearing traffic, trying to identify where the blood is on the court.
And so we'll have a little bit of a stoppage in play.
And look at the help that's here.
I see a drop here.
Where did she go.
As they try to track that all down.
Well this is the final of five state championships here today for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
And what an event.
What a week it always is here in Coralville as we wrap it up today.
It's such a family event.
And how about even Ankeny Christian, right?
So many of the older sisters on of the girls playing now were able to get a title.
So Liv nearing her sister Macy, she won a title.
Gabby quick sister Katie, Kaitlin Weathers.
His sister Anna.
She would be all over the court.
Such great defense.
And then Danny Craig's sister Carly.
So the younger sisters now awaiting their turn for the trophy.
Well, volleyball here, football coming up next.
And that'll be in Cedar Falls.
And from the opening kickoff until the final trophy is raised.
We're your home for Iowa high school football championships.

That's right around the corner to the dome, we go from Extreme Arena and the crews here, the medical staff there attending to the hand of Honor Hovenga.
She had gotten a cut and now they've cleaned up the floor.
We're got a little bit more time here before play can resume.
And let's take a break right now.
And when we come back, we'll resume play here on Iowa PBS.
On the next road trip, Iowa.
It's an important piece of history for our community.
We explore the southern stretch of Iowa's Jefferson Highway.
This is one of the perks of the job, for sure.
This span of countryside offers unique attractions with soaring and shining views of our state.
Saturday at 9 a.m.
On Iowa PBS.
Next time on studio three live!
It's Pieta Brown.
I'm running through.
The songs for me are kind of these otherworldly, mystical visits.
I feel like that just kind of appear when I pick up my guitar.
I still don't really know where they come from.
A lot of times.
Friday at 830 on Iowa PBS.
Hey!
We're back!
2 to 1 Ankeny Christian with the advantage.
We're in the third set.
We had a stoppage because of an injury and some blood out on the floor, and Honor Hovenga is going to have to sit out for just a little bit as we resume play back in as Ankeny Christian has the lead, but we're tied at two sets each and there is Quinn Sweeney 13 kills on the night.
Such a presence in the middle.
And she didn't even transition as a middle.
You're supposed to get back to that ten foot line, like out of the pink, and take a good approach.
And she does it and she still gets the kill.
Anderson ripped it too hard.
She loves that sharp crosscourt slice.
That one goes wide right?
A couple of ties out of the gates.
Here as Bree's bent serves an overpass.
And it's Gilbert who shoves it right back down.
So well placed.
Of course, when you can jump like that, you can jump up.
See where the defense is, and then redirect it to your left where the defense is not standing.
So they adjust on defense here and hide a defender on Serve receive.
Sweeney that's a kill.
We talk about the front line so much.
We are not giving Danica Brinkman enough credit because she is passing the ball really well.
That's an in-system ball because of her great pass is Y Sweeney has the kill and Pollock with the great assist.
And off of hands.
How about that off the roll Danny Craighead with another kill.
Yes.
What I love about Danny Craighead's right side swing there is that she was going against a solo block.
Only Hayden Anderson was there on the left side and Sweeney couldn't get there in time.
So a nice job going pin to pin by the offense of Ankeny Christian.
And overpass again.
Ankeny Christian goes back and forth.
They go to the outside.
Anderson that hit fingertips.
Side out Janesville.
Nice push by Anderson again.
Well placed.
That line is hard to defend because you're in the middle.
You're moving over and trying to adjust that time the defender was moving forward and couldn't react quick enough.
Quick.
Trying to find Dolbeare and that is going to be an attack error out of Quinn Sweeney.
Yeah, Reese fenced a nice job on the line.
There she was.
The left back defense and stayed in bounds and could make a quick decision knowing that that ball was out.
Not a quick.
Back into the game.
This Hovenga has her left thumb taped up.
And Ankeny Christian taking a three point lead.
It's almost you know we mentioned every set they've dropped.
They've come back to win the next one all season long.
And in that opening set, when they lost by 15, it's almost like they're programed by AI with the adjustments they're making.
They've just been that resilient.
This is going to be out and Janesville will get the side out.
That's a big swing there.
On the backwards bump by Weathers that goes out.
But we didn't talk about Malia Porter there with her swing on the right side.
She's been quiet for a while.
So a nice job again using all aspects of the offense for Ankeny Christian.
Quick to the outside, Gilbert.
Little head hunting down the line for Dobert that's been effective for her.
That's her eighth kill.
So Havana dobert back into it on serve basketball and track athlete for Ankeny Christian Hovenga could have hit it square and a block by nearing.
Nearing.
Getting shoved around.
They are pumped for her on that double block.
Out of the back row.
Anderson feeds it to Hovenga.
Quick tries to find the corner.
Anderson with the hustle opportunity knocking here for Ankeny Christian and they go to the middle.
And there.
I think live nearing was trying to say, hey, that foot was across the line and the official said nope, it's a block.
A nice solo block by Lauren Meaney out of the middle.
A good read.
Out of Pollock.
Quick to the outside.
Great effort.
By Brinkman and an attack error.
Eagles up by four.
Coach Michele Quick doing a nice job with all these adjustments.
Keeping the offense quick for Ankeny Christian.
Hitting the deep corners quick outside sets using both pins left and right really to keep Janesville on their heels a little bit.
Ready to go back at it?
They'll set up Meaney dug up out of the back by dobert roll shot comes right back over Bentz.
Good up by Anderson.
Meaney denied at the net.
A sneaky set by Tayah Pollock for Janesville, but not in rhythm with Meaney on that one.
So Carmen Lambert just could not get out of the way of that one.
And that's there in rhythm.
Side out Janesville.
And Wildcats with some work to do.
20 both teams in the state tournament run to the postseason up till now did not drop a set, nor even at one apiece.
You can see why both teams play so well, so smart.
Leave it for Meaney with great reaction.
Out of quick Meaney again in the up weathers.
What defense?
Pollock again to the outside.
That's Anderson and Janesville gets the hard earned point.
Long volley and it's Anderson with the big swing to end the rally.
Quick goes to bench.
That's been effective.
The back pass is that defense has had a tough time finding the adjustment.
The right side coming in clutch for the Eagles.
Now Don Davis on serve.
Pollock puts it up.
Meaney.
Still going.
That's the third hit.
Anderson.
I think that one hit the top of the net.
And back to a five point advantage here for Ankeny Christian.
Yes.
Ankeny Christian keeping the pressure on trying to force some errors by the Wildcats.
Last year Ankeny Christian missing the state tournament, but they reloaded with a bevy of freshmen.
Talented freshman.
Good pick up by Anderson on defense.
Now quick and unable to get square with it was Brinkman and Gabby Quick will get a kill.
Yes, the five seven freshman with the cross court shot.
There it is.
She rises up and puts one in zone five for the score.
Time out for Janesville.
We're in the third set, all knotted up at a set a piece and Ankeny Christian with the advantage of their largest lead at six.
Who knows where we'll end up here.
My goodness, both these teams just momentum swing after momentum swing.
As coaches you have to use your time-outs.
Let's go inside of the Janesville huddle.
You gotta keep moving.
Keep talking.
Turn it our way.
We got to close the gap right here.
Okay.
And hitters, you gotta work hard in transition, right?
Defense is touching the ball.
It might be crazy.
Be ready.
Get it done.
Find a way.
They're digging it up as well.
Keep working right here.
We gotta close the gap.
Let's go.
Here we go.
Grabs on three.
123.
Catch.
Gotta go quicker everybody.
What does Coach Sorensen break it down for us at home.
You know they're down six right here.
8 to 14.
They've got to get things going.
So one point at a time at a time is that close the gap to score here.
But their hitters have got to transition so they can take big swings.
Because it was actually a shout out to their defense there because they're picking up a lot of balls.
And a quick tap over.
That one's out of play.
And the Eagles go up by seven.
I mean if you missed the first set Janesville was so dominant so dominant.
Eagles make the adjustments winning the second set 25 to 18.
And here in the third rolling right along.
And that one's blocked in.
Danny Craighead.
Danny Craighead coming in clutch.
Here it is.
Janesville sets the middle on the slide and Meaney is rejected by Craighead.
Back to Davis to serve.
Set up Anderson blocked by Craighead.
Oh, Danny.
How you doing?
Excellent timing.
Good patience.
On the block to wait as the ball was set deep to ten feet and she stuffs it.
Pollock will go to Anderson this time.
Hits hands.
Joust at the net.
Anderson big swing kept alive by Craighead and quick.
Can't get it over.
Side out.
Janesville just what they needed.
And on the rotation.
Comes back in six foot four.
Quinn Sweeney yes down eight.
We'll see what she can do.
Of course she had eight kills in the first set, only five in the second, which meant their offense slowed down.
And then tack error.
Janesville will hold serve.
You can't be reserved in your aggression.
Aggression on offense here.
If you're Ankeny Christian.
Swing back.
Good defense.
Playing it off the block.
Sweeney sets up Pollock.
She'll get it back.
And into the net.
Yes!
Net violation on Ankeny Christian.
But when Sweeney takes that ball with her hands, you know she's going to get it right back from Pollock.
And you better be frozen on defense and do what you can.
Craighead with the smash.
How about Craighead here in set number three.
Two big blocks and now a kill.
Similar to her older sister, who really came alive in their first championship in 2022.
Weathers will track it down.
Sweeney blocked back opportunity quick.
Win over to Gilbert.
Janesville able to gather it.
Anderson.
Anderson is fearless on that swing.
That's not an easy shot.
And there's another big swing.
Great volley.
Gobert off of hands that time.
She crossed it and got it.
What a great connection with Gabby.
Quick quick out of her hands outside to Doll Bear.
And she pounds it through.
It's Ankeny Christian with the lead.
Time out.
Going to be taken here by Janesville.
They'll burn their final time out here in the third set.
Let's go inside of that Ankeny Christian huddle.
Right.
Her head was spinning.
So if their heads are spinning, we can take control.
Right?
Stay down low and deep and expect the ball to come to you.
Right?
Everybody expect the ball to come to you.
Press in low.
Okay.
They're not they're not going to just give up.
They're not.
Caitlin.
Inside of that huddle.
Stay in stay in on that short spot because she and you stay.
Be ready for her to push it high because she likes to swing and push high.
What do you gather out of.
This.
In game scouting report here?
You know they're playing great defense but they have to stay low so they can stay quick.
That's where it's at.
That athletic position.
And she says coach says that their heads are spinning.
So keep the pressure on.
Look for an aggressive serve out of the time-out up 1911 for the Eagles.
Pollock will leave it for Sweeney.
That one kept alive.
Davis will push it across.
They go to Sweeney again and side out.
To.
The Eagles are working so hard to play defense, it's hard to turn that right back around and play tough offense by the third touch.
Sweeney now with 18 kills.
And a service error won't help.
Janesville out.
Craighead rotates out wide.
Nearing comes in, but Craighead, with an impressive three rotations there.
Pollock leaves it for Sweeney.
Daubert that got down.
Havana.
Daubert now a double double on the night.
11 kills, ten digs.
Daubert is just getting started.
She hit so well.
Has such good control.
But it's her hang time.
Her air time.
That's impressive.
That allows her to be so successful.
You can be aggressive when you have a lead like Ankeny Christian does.
Quick to deliberate high points.
It.
Let's see what Gabby decides to do.
She goes middle and that's blocked.
But out is that crossed the net.
Those are those difficult calls.
Was there a touch on the block or not?
Nearing will get the kill.
They thought maybe it was four touches.
Here comes Gabby.
Quick.
Set up Sweeney off of the transition.
And how about that?
Ankeny Christian just picking their points of attack.
Malia Porter gets a kill.
What a cross court shot there.
Ankeny Christian just two losses this year.
One to Ankeny who qualified for state, the other to Roland-Story who's also a state qualifier in class three.
A and they they are against the state tournament field five and two this season.
And that's Zoe Kimball substituting in number four.
Gobert.
Set point coming up.
How about Dolbeare.
We know she can do that.
She's been having to adjust her swing because of the big block of Quinn Sweeney.
But right there she lets it loose.
She's on the outside.
Here's quick to Dolbeare straight down.
Set point.
Quick off of the slide.
It will be dug up.
Will keep playing.
Hovenga shot.
Weathers.
Good defense though.
Set up Sweeney and that'll keep this one going.
The third set will play on as Quinn Sweeney gets the side out.
Yes, and the assist there to Tayah Pollock.
She did a nice job.
She put a little more height on that ball for her teammate.
So we keep talking about the middles, especially Sweeney.
But Pollock doing a great job.
She's over 3000 assists in her career.
Dolbeare gave it a ride.
Meaney that hit fingertips.
Janesville will keep it going.
That violation.
This is good.
Good momentum.
What did you say?
Yes.
As the momentum swings back to the Janesville side, it's nice if you're Ankeny Christian to look up at the scoreboard and know that you have 24 points.
And that'll end it.
Set point number four and Ankeny Christian will get it.
As Malia Porter gets the set ending kill and Ankeny Christian now a set away from winning their school's fourth state title.
We'll find out if they can do it when we return.
As you're watching the state volleyball championships here on Iowa PBS.
Next time on studio three live, it's Pieta Brown.
Time.
I'm running through.
Hunt.
The songs for me are kind of these otherworldly, mystical visits.
I feel like that just kind of appear when I pick up my guitar.

It's a two sets to one lead for Ankeny Christian over Janesville.
As you're watching the class one, a state championship here on Iowa PBS.
And now Ankeny Christian could be a set away from winning their school's fourth state title, but Dr.
Joanna Settles on B.J.
Schaben.
And what stood out to you in this match?
How Ankeny Christian has been able to turn it around.
You know, they're setting the outside and they're going outside to Havana.
Dolbeare.
And she is producing points.
She's hitting it hard.
She's finding seams and she's confident right now.
Certainly is.
And for Ankeny Christian, they lost that opening set by ten.
And they've come back to win the next two.
The adjustments have been made in in.
And you're right Dolbeare going down the line has been a big deal.
Now for Janesville to get back into this.
What do they need to do?
Obviously we'll start way back at the beginning, right?
Get the ball to the middle because I think it's 19 kills.
Now for Sweeney.
So if they can continue to get her the ball and other people have to produce as well.
So take care of the volleyball.
Yeah.
Something tells me she's in her highlight package here coming up in Quinn Sweeney.
As with 19 kills, as we take a look at how we got here, as we are about ready to enter the fourth set.
And yes, there she is at the net.
Very effective early on with the block and with the kills.
19 so far for Sweeney.
But for Ankeny Christian, you know some hustle plays and they were winning some battles at the net.
Danny Craighead right there.
Just some grit.
Bentz forcing some issues and Ankeny Christian you know that grit that determination has certainly showed up that you mentioned.
Yes.
It's a good balance.
When Dolbeare wasn't producing or was in the back row.
And that's when Craighead did some damage blocking and getting some kills and redirects for points.
Janesville now hitting 130 for the match.
Quinn Sweeney hitting 457.
And you look at Havana Daubert leading the way with 12 kills, hitting at about 273.
Nine blocks so far for Ankeny Christian as they've actually out blocked Janesville 9 to 8.
That's surprising, right?
That that's not one thing that you would guess 9 to 8 that Ankeny Christian would with the height disadvantage time things so well and be big at the net.
So here we go.
We're marked ready for play.
As the lineups are set.
Janesville wanting to try to come back and win this last year, coming up short in the state title match and trying to avenge that by coming back.
But you know what?
Ankeny Christian is playing with some fire here.
Breese Bentz will get things going with the kill.
Yes it goes back though to that first serve.
Receive pass.
It was on point.
Sweeney.
Got it.
There.
We're tied at one.
Nice read by Sweeney.
Instead of hitting it.
Which she could have pounded it through that block.
She notices the double block comes from the left side, and she drops one in on the defense.
Now to Pollock to serve.
Quick the tap over right there on top of it was Brinkman.
And look at the hustle.
Play by Brinkman turns into opportunity and a a lead here for Janesville.
Both kills by Sweeney that time she hits the ball hard.
Quick off of the slide to Craighead.
Good recovery now.
Sweeney finds it on the back line.
Make it three in a row.
And Janesville out to the quick start.
Here's Dobbert that time.
Crossed it up and got it through Side out Eagles.
Nice job starting the offense with the pass was Weathers.
She did a great job in the serve receive to get the ball to her setter.
Here's Katelynn Weathers.
Caitlin of course, going on to Cedarville University to play softball.
Going to be joining her sister.
Sweeney going deep weathers with the up.
Battle at the net.
Now quick to Dobut Anderson had it and Janesville wanting a lift.
No lift.
Called and look out!
Shelly Sorensen out of the box wanting an explanation.
She thought there was contact over the net while they were still making a play on the ball.
We're tied at three and an ace.
Here comes Ankeny Christian.
And you saw Katelynn Weathers with her big, exciting jump to get her team fired up.
Pollock will leave it up and an attack error.
So the Eagles flying high.
Four point run here.
Good pass.
Quick to the bear.
No touch.
But wait a second.
They said that was in.
Trying to thread the needle down the line.
Just misses it.
You're correct.
It was overruled.
Up top.
So it was out.
Five, four.
Your score.
And an attack error will tie it up at five.
Honor Hovenga doing a nice job serving in this strong rotation for Janesville.
And it's the opposite.
Hitting hand for Hovenga that got injured earlier.
Should mention that here's Anderson and overpass Sweeney.
Free ball coming.
Here's their offense.
Looking for them to go to Sweeney.
And what touch.
The one handed tip to the right side into the empty spot.
There she is.
She sees that the pink is open and she hits it.
23 kills for Quinn Sweeney.
That number just gets higher and higher.
Now Daubert.
That one ruled in officially.
We're tied at six.
That's a high level of difficulty on that ball with the angle that it's coming from.
So great job swinging hard hitting the back line of the defense of Janesville.
Sweeney again.
Good defense.
Gilbert blocked back by Sweeney.
You just don't expect it to come right back so fast.
Nobody expects it.
You can't react soon enough.
And there's quick with the effort, but not quick enough.
That hits tape.
Eagles maintain their composure.
Daubert right off of the block and will be tied at seven.
I think Barrett jumped a little higher knowing that she had Sweeney on the bench and she had Meaney instead.
Not quite as big, as big of a middle block to go against.
Five ties, three lead changes so far.
Quick punch over by Bentz.
Gilbert with the up.
Good effort by Hovenga.
Down on the back line.
Did that touch anybody.
No they say Ankeny Christian will get the point in the lead.
Now.
Yeah.
Good pick up by Hovenga on defense.
At the net.
The battle won by the Eagles and nearing.
That's what you love.
When your teammates can serve really tough.
You get some overpasses.
And there it comes.
And how about nearing.
She loves it.
Thank you to Dolbeare for that one.
Can't she do it again?
And a service error.
Helps out Janesville here.
Yeah a little run there by the Eagles.
But this three games in three days.
Fatigue setting in a bit.
Off in the middle.
The up.
Here's Anderson.
That kill gets in.
Hayden Anderson consistent with her hard swing.
A few go out but she comes roaring back.
All tied up at nine.
Quick to the outside.
The roll shot by Porter handled Anderson.
Quick again to Porter.
They'll leave it to Meaney and Lauren gives Janesville the lead here.
This is impressive, especially with Quinn Sweeney out due to rotation.
Yes, Ankeny Christian now tipping way too much.
They need to be more aggressive.
Even if 1 or 2 go out.
You have to stay aggressive on offense.
Janesville trying to force a fifth set.
And that did go off a deflection.
The libero Danica Brinkman just couldn't find it correctly.
The lefty now into serve.
She's played some good defense even in her half rotation.
Carmen Lambert now to the outside.
Anderson good touch.
Back to it.
Bentz a lot of power behind that shot.
Breese Bentz from the right side powering it through.
In the fourth set.
It's been a battle.
Meaney just couldn't get enough air underneath of it.
A little miscommunication there she was, a little further away from her setter.
Maybe she was running a 31 and they were setting a one back in sync because the pass was very good.
By Brinkman.
Meaney.
Pollock went quick.
Now Porter, a lot of tips here.
Anderson with the swing.
Not by Anderson, that's for.
Sure.
Porter off of hands.
We'll get that one to drop.
Nice job by Porter to swing away there and find the hole in the defense of the Wildcats.
Eagles with a four point run here.
Look for Sorensen to keep this close or she'll be calling a time out.
Meaney.
You're saying no touch and a time-out going to be taken by Janesville 1410.
A five zero run put together by the Eagles.
Let's go inside of the Janesville huddle.
For one.
But they're not staying there right.
Make sure you stay patient.
You're kind of sneaking in and just doing hop.
It's okay.
You get this going right here.
We come back right here.
It's okay.
One at a time.
We didn't say it was going to be easy, right?
Okay.
We didn't say it was going to be easy.
Dig deep right here.
Pick up everything.
Right.
Have some fun playing hard.
Okay.
Talk to each other.
Keep moving and make sure we're looking for good spots.
If we have to throw free balls, you got to reach high.
Okay.
Reach high.
Put that ball where you want.
Keep.
Keep putting that ball on her head.
We got to close the gap.
Let's go.
Here, you guys, we're passing better.
Let's go get it with defense.
Right here.
Let's go!
Turn it up.
Three.
One two.
Three.
We got push right here.
Let's go.
Here's Coach Sorensen getting her team fired up.
Stay patient.
It's okay.
And she's saying make sure you put that ball where you want it.
And you're only doing that if you're in control.
So her message you're in control.
Come right back here.
And an ace to start off after the time-out, a six zero run.
That's the sophomore.
Lambert's the lefty serve.
We've talked about it all night and all season with Ankeny Christian.
How well they serve.
Anderson able to capitalize there as Ankeny Christian the first to 15 here.
But a big side out for Janesville.
It is.
I like the adjustment by Coach Sorensen.
She switches and puts Taylor Anderson on the right side.
A new look for their offense, a new look for the defense of Ankeny Christian and they score.
Quick comes to Bentz.
Meaney Weathers just could not find it and that's a big kill for Lauren Meaney.
Let's see if it gets her on track.
Here.
It is a good effort by the libero for Ankeny Christian Weathers.
But there's the big wind up and the big kill.
Off of the transition.
Played up off the block, tapped over out of system.
Ball goes to the right side.
Yeah.
Bentz with the shot and it's effective.
Everything's going Ankeny Christian way.
Yes.
When you're out of system.
Is that smooth?
You know things are going well for the Eagles.
So the Eagles with Evelyn Davis.
Leading it by four.
That's a side out for Janesville.
And now Sweeney will check back in on the rotation.
How about the senior setter Pollock.
She gets a big hug by Hovenga on that one, but she goes over and to and surprises the defense of Ankeny Christian.
Roll shot.
They go to Sweeney.
And it's ruled out.
No touch.
That's a bit dangerous because that's too easy of a ball.
You have to place that smarter where it's not so easy for the defense of Janesville to put that ball up and get it to Sweeney.
Overpass.
Pollock able to find it.
How about Sweeney with the back pass?
Now to Dolbeare.
Pollock took it herself.
We still play.
Gobert off of hands.
1813.
Gobert 17 kills.
It's a brilliant connection between setter and hitter.
Quick and Dolbeare.
They're magic and I love it when they go quick.
Quick with the back tap.
Sweeney just could not get adjusted.
The quicker they go the less she can transition.
She can't get back behind the ball.
And that was a hitting error.
It's all Ankeny Christian right now.
Let's go inside of that huddle with Ankeny Christian and Michele Quick.
So sell it like you're selling a car.
Okay?
Well, we heard selling it like selling it like a car.
Love it.
And coach quick, we can tell you, you know, he's been very passionate coming into this.
Had a little bit of a cold.
We've got the advantage on our side right.
It's one point we need one.
And then we need two.
Right.
Take it take it.
I didn't know how long you were gonna talk.
Okay.
And after that semifinal win yesterday, didn't have much of a voice left.
But the honey has worked.
Magic.
Really?
She's just making her team laugh.
Stay relaxed.
Go get a point out there and sell it like you're selling a car.
Terrific messaging.
Six point advantage here.
Now for the Eagles defense off of the time-out.
Tough serve Sweeney.
Tolbert attacks the back line.
And now Ankeny Christian five points away from their school's fourth state championship.
They took last year off.
Not really.
Couldn't make it to the state tournament.
They reload with a bunch of freshmen mixed in with some underclassmen and a few seniors.
One of those, Caitlyn Weathers, who also played in the 24 state championship.
That went to tight there on that set.
They go quick again.
It's played up another set by Sweeney.
The tip over drops in by Hovenga.
And as you look at this Janesville team they are laser focused fighting for every point.
I love the look on Danica Brinkman face.
She has played so many great balls in those that libero uniform.
She is working hard, trying to do everything she can for the Wildcats.
They try to hold serve for a little bit.
Now.
Is that blocked?
And yes, it's out.
Tooling the block doll bear.
We knew she'd be big in this game and that is huge by her.
That's 19 now.
Weather served too long.
Substitution number 30 Janesville.
So Hovenga.
And we have a substitution as Janesville will go to their bench.
Elliott Reed, the senior, will check in.
On a. Sub in that front row Reed.
Challenges.
But Gobert wins.
Weathers with that great pass.
How about quick to doll bear again down the line.
That was a key to success.
And that was point number 22 for the Eagles.
Sweeney too strong.
And two points away as the countdown is on for the Ankeny Christian faithful that are here.
This fast tempo is advantage Ankeny Christian as they inch closer to a title.
And an ace.
And now we're at Championship Point.
As the freshman Gabby Quick will look to serve it out.
Eagle nation is fired up.
They're on their feet for this one.
And it's an ace to end it.
Ankeny Christian your 1A state champ again.
It's a final Ankeny Christian winning it in four sets.
Janesville runner up again.
But what a season for them as we watch the final point here on back to back aces by Gabby Quick.
We talked about that quick tempo and aggressive serving.
There's the freshman and there's the point that wins it.
There's some proud big sisters.
That won it before.
And now little sisters it's your turn.
And the pink T-shirts are out as Ankeny Christian wins her school's fourth state championship one straight from 22 to 24.
