Ladies and gentlemen our officials for this afternoon's match .
The referee , Maranda Woodcock.
Your AR one, Carol Malcolm.
Your AR 2, on Otori.
And your fourth official, Dennis halfling.
All right, soccer fans, it is time to play state championship soccer.
>> All right, thank you Rex.
Here we go.
Chip number three and expected to be A.D.D.
These two schools know each other very well, but how about we get introduced to them a little bit more.
Here is their season resumes for Dallas Center-Grimes, two- time defending state champ.
Their 15th trip to state.
Six starters back from a year ago, including some super seniors in Knief , and Cyr, the team leading scorers.
You also have in that Torsky.
She has been dynamic all year , and for the Comets of North Polk, this is a squat making their seventh trip to state all consecutive since 2017.
They last played in the title match back in 2019.
Eight starters return from a year ago.
Six players have scored more than 10 goals on the year, and look out, they can come at you in a different way , and how about the keys to the match appear for DCG.
>> They have to put the ball in the back of the net, make them count.
It's all about finishing.
>> You have to strike while it's hot.
Now conversely for North Polk, the Comets.
>> You can't get distracted with previous DCG teams and was all set of happened in the past.
From the start .
Make sure it counts.
>> These two schools last met in a state championship two years ago for the girls state title in basketball, with Dallas Center-Grimes winning it.
How about this , a Chamber of Commerce day here in the city of Des Moines.
Mostly sunny.
82 .
The wins are just out of the West at six.
Not really a major factor in this one, as it is a late afternoon tilt .
It is game three of our triple header here on Iowa PBS as we are about ready to be marked for play.
Dallas Center-Grimes on the season, just three losses on the year , as they upped their schedule as they typically do.
They finished , we are coming into this match right now with a mark of 17-3.
Meanwhile the Comets that 19-1 this season.
The winners of the raccoon River Valley conference in which they had the best Gilbert to fend off the Tigers to win the title.
So it will be North Polk wearing their black and red uniforms.
Black front, readback, white lettering , and then for DCG , they are wearing white with red lettering.
So here we go, underway from County Park, as each team figures that they want to get up and down the field.
You don't see that too often, but both teams have a lot of depth.
>> A lot of depth.
A lot of energy.
There is a key injury on the Comets side.
She did start.
We will see how long she can take the pressure here and the fatigue .
Obviously the heat and that, both teams are 3-5-2 matchup in the system.
It will be end to end.
I believe that's Hofbauer.
We spoke about the pace going forward.
It is going to be at 100 miles per hour , and that is what you are going to get a possibly both teams.
I know DCG you are going to get that.
>> The Comets try to streak the field out as I go down the field.
And again the Mustangs defensively, they are back Stout defensively.
You will see that throughout.
Janssen, going on to play on the ball at Truman State.
>> And Janssen has been very consistent throughout the tournament here.
She has been consistent throughout the season.
Dan James has been really impressed with just the simplicity and detail and the way she plays.
>> So Dallas Center-Grimes winners over Xavier in the quarterfinals.
They won 1-0 to advance here for the championship and for North Polk, they had to come from behind in opening match of the to a tournament.
They fell down early to Lewis Central, but came back to win that one 3-2 and then of course a 2-0 win in the semi finals , so here we go.
Michael kicked coming up here for North Polk.
Outstanding volleyball player, going to be going on to play volleyball at Warburton.
>> DCG back three really deep.
20, outside 15 yards , outside of their own Haft with the goal kicks.
The goal?
And the halfway line.
I would maybe play a High Line.
Maybe they are worried about the pace, but they have Williamson at the back , so Texaco, strong, and powerful in the air.
>> Good battle in the middle, North Polk able to win with Nemmers.
Taken right back by DCG.
That's Gill.
And again , the two schools may be 11 a best 12 miles apart.
And they don't play each other during the regular season.
It has been a year since they played against one another.
DCG, excuse me, has won the last two matchups rather convincingly over North Polk, but that was a year ago.
So, just getting things underway.
A lot of battle in midfield.
Nobody really holding possession.
Physical play , and a whistle.
Penalty going to be called against the DCG.
Free kick near midfield for North Polk .
>> It looks like they're going to put this into the penalty area .
>> So , a deep blast, big battle for the box, inside the box.
North Polk with a shot up , the header , just wide of the net.
What a great lead pass to North Polk .
Was in the neighborhood, just missed it.
>> Very good opportunity there.
Gill with the initial challenge on the penalty area, but it was always going to go wide.
It was always going to go for a goal kick.
>> Beg your pardon, that was Nemmers near the net.
>> This ball going to be tracked back by North Polk .
Holding it inside the zone.
The Mustangs looking to work it to the exterior.
Not much pressure applied that time by Ollendike , and here comes Forsyth.
Now to Cyr.
Outside the blast up high, but going to be deflected away to the left , or down off into the corner .
This will stay with the Mustangs.
So, Dan James am a longtime coach here at DCG, actually coached this program and all of these players were a part of the menace program.
Menace youth program for 7- year-olds and younger.
He has been with them that long, another head coach, he has also been the headman at DCG for a long time , and what a program he has put together here.
>> As he has.
Built a community.
The community has grown, and I love what they have done .
They have their little soccer club there as well at Dallas Center- Grimes .
Nix does a lot of work there as well.
He has grown the program.
All of the players, they want to fight for the high school.
>> DCG, so tough defensively , able to turn that one back around.
Now we are playing out into space in midfield which is dangerous for DCG took the lead pass that I had.
Going to be blocks away by Koudelka.
>> Koudelka coming away with what could have been an opportunity for Cyr going up well.
>> In her third year here at North Polk, a course in assistant coach at Simpson College.
Fort Dodge native , and around this program , brings instant energy anywhere she goes.
>> Trust me, I have coached against her, 100 miles per just absolutely on the go .
Afterwards I remember shaking her hand and said are you sure you just don't need to rest for a couple of days after that.
>> Of course she also coaches at the sporting Iowa club.
Now from the outside, the deep toss.
It will be a goal kick coming up here for North Polk.
>> That is Riley Renz getting forward, delivering .
Out wide on the right-hand side for DCG.
Hofbauer in the left.
Glasgow.
Both of them have pace going forward in the shape of the 3-5- 2, with a double 6 with Gill and Renz.
>> So North Polk and DCG battling it out, DCG trying to win their second state title on the day.
bested Hoover.
There they are, chilling with the title .
Looking to add another to the trophy case.
Can they do it here on the girls aside?
North Polk , though, standing in their way.
That's great support out of both.
>> That is what it's all about.
The community coming together.
Fuller the winner in overtime against the Huskies from Hoover, and they are down to the bottom right behind the goal line, like you said, chilling under the tent enjoying the atmosphere now.
>> Where we have had and attend action.
Each team with some opportunities my butt about what we expected here through the nearly 1st 10 minutes of action.
>> We are going to have a thrilling matchup today and this is exciting, as you can see the ball played forward, but here's the thing.
What are finals, semi finals, how much running can you do now in the final, and it is hot out there.
We will have the water break, I believe.
>> So , the Comets will put it in play .
That is Addison Flinn.
She is used to running.
Dual sport athlete.
First time ever North Polk allowed athletes to do both track and soccer in the spring, and Flinn took full advantage of that .
Here is Flinn in the middle trying to find some running room .
A little too much pepper on that as it goes out.
It will be a throw in for DCG.
>> Both teams should look to keep in the ball.
Gets hot out there , and I know it's going to go.
It's frantic, the adrenaline only 10 minutes into the game.
Like we have seen all day, it has been absolutely 100 miles per hour.
Managing the game, assessing your opponent , keep the ball.
I think that would be the right way to go about it, but I know what it's like.
We saw that in the 1 eight-game from the cups.
>> Is that first goal which is always the most important event of any championship.
As we see that Bob was marked at a play before that ball was passed down the field.
So a turnover here .
As DCG will get it back.
The Mustangs as we mentioned, Dan James very interesting comment.
He said it took me 20 years to get my first , and now he goes we are just, we are running into treasures every year.
>> I didn't realize it took Dan James 20 years to get his first title.
It just keeps rolling and now.
>> Yeah.
Can't argue with that.
Lap of luxury with the talented players that are rolling through.
It looks to continue for DCG and North Polk.
A lot of underclassmen that have played some huge roles for each program.
Here is Flinn.
Boy, went to battle.
You can't leave the ball too long with DCG defense Blidh.
>> It's got to be quick.
There's Gill getting her body across it.
>> Hard tackle.
This is going against North Polk.
DCG the benefactor of the penalty.
>> Gill doing well stepping across the ball and the role of Thomas don't foul when they are going back to goal , but again, adrenaline levels, the energy .
>> Yeah.
All of the above.
Again , they haven't played against one another, but the two schools are very familiar with one another.
In fact, seemingly to meet up with one another in the state tournament, whether it be basketball or here.
DCG with an opportunity.
Cyr with a shot that goes wide right .
She tried to set up her left foot Dierks >> I thought the other option that Forsyth had was the run off the ball by Knief to the left-hand side, but look at that shot , just trying to bring the ball onto her left foot.
Again , you know, Dan James spoke about finishing, hitting the target.
>> Cyr last year midfield, this year has moved up to forward and has taken full advantage of it.
And the comments -- Comets, seeing that in full force, as you see some glimpses here out of both , mounting some pressure.
>> It is going to be competitive , but we are going to get some goals in this game.
Williamson has been consistent over the weeks, solid at center back .
Very commanding.
>> And each team can really pick it .
From the goal, that is Torsky .
Boy, they are leaving it out on the field here through the first 13 minutes of action.
When that nearside stands , and we will get a whistle here for sure.
Physical play , as Cyr gets up with a smile .
>> We have seen Cyr over the years on this Mustangs roster, always competing .
One thing with DCG Mustangs , very good They are brave in the penalty area.
>> Knief, one of the most decorated players ever at DCG going on to play at Northern Iowa with a free kick, and North Polk able to get it free .
A big battle for the ball, but it is won by the Comets .
So, Boelman able to push it forward.
Gives way to the center.
Could this be a breakout?
As Bell.
Yes.
>> We spoke about Bell early on.
Great technique .
Absolutely smashed that with a banger in the back of the net.
Torsky could do nothing about it.
The ball was low to Torsky's left-hand side.
Could not get a hand to it.
Can you believe it?
The opening goal to the Comets, but look at this.
Bell twisting onto her left foot from a horizontal -- Trying to get her hips around the ball into the opposite corner, and Flinn was off the ball to the right hand side screaming for the ball, but Bell goes for a.
>> Bell going on to play soccer in northern Iowa.
Injured that left ankle in the regional final.
The coach that she is getting very close to 100%.
She looks electric with that ankle and all to get that goal.
>> I think Francis Lee was throwing a dummy at us to be honest with you.
>> Here is a shot that goes high and will be batted down by Cory .
How about that?
Knief says right back at you , but Cory says no.
This is going to be fun.
North Polk with the opening goal.
>> It was a difficult one to deal with in the air.
>> A free kick here for the Comets .
If you are going to try to unseat the champion , that's a great way to start.
North Polk just runs out of space, so it will be a goal kick coming up here for Torsky .
>> I knew we would be in for some action today with this game.
What an absolute , sublime finish.
Could that be the goal?
We don't know yet .
Out of the three games that we've had today, but that was absolutely fantastic Dierks >> I think both netminder's are going to be challenged today, no question.
They already have.
DCG who has been so strong defensively here early on , North Polk able to figure out a way to crack that code with Bell.
But it was set up by Boelman fending her way through traffic.
>> Koudelka playing the ball up, but it was a quick throw in.
>> Things are going to be slowed down here come as a DCG is going to have to redo it.
, On the where is the gamesmanship, right?
DCG trying to go quick.
>> That's what they do.
They just go.
Time to rest.
>> A big blast here, will put it up, but wide right.
Really did not have the footing there on the attempt, and North Polk will have to try to move it back up the field.
So DCG came in to this tournament, they have not been down , but I think back to that quarterfinal matchup for North Polk down 2-0 right away , right out of the gate at intermission, they were down by that many with Lewis central pick they put together three goals in the second half, and Lewis central, a traditional power program here in Iowa girls soccer.
The Comets played their way right through it, and coach Lee talked about that.
They said she never gave up, never gives up.
Powell is going to be called are whistled on the Comets .
Right back at of here comes DCG down the field.
Big challenge for the ball .
The heads are moving the ball here on the last minute.
>> At a frantic pace as well, two minutes away from the water break, and not one player individual on both teams has let down at all.
>> Avery bird checking into the game a minute ago for North Polk , calling her the super sub, playing in her second year of soccer.
And said what has surprised her the most about Bird is how physical she isn't just playing her second year of soccer .
And it has certainly been all of that, bumps and bruises.
It will be forgotten about is this one moves on, looking to drive down the field, that is Gill.
To the side , and it will be a corner kick coming up here for DCG.
>> Just mistimed the run, inverted a run too early.
She should have just held for she receives the ball.
Right idea, though.
>> Cory who has been strong so far.
Here's Renz, the Drake signee , ready to give it a whirl.
Started all four years for the Mustangs.
Now towards the net, the header .
Goes out.
And a collision.
This is going to be against DCG , as Cory took the brunt of that collision.
Watch it .
>> That was brave.
As you can see, the attacking player lining the ball up, and Cory , just powering that ball away.
>> And the official, Maranda, checking Cory out , making sure that she is okay.
I think she said you are not getting me out of this game.
No way.
>> That was so brave from Cory , absolutely brilliant, just powering the ball away.
The attacking player has a right to challenge for the ball.
>> And Cory playing at the beginning of the year was not in net.
Cromley was there but tore her ACL in game number five, and Cory by the way also was battling a concussion at the beginning of the year.
Now the Mustangs with Knief down that far sideline.
going to be tripped up , and might've been called or it was called for the infraction.
>> The matchups are right allover , in the right areas, player for player, speed for speed.
>> Bergstrom with the challenge, the captain.
They have been big so far for North Polk.
DCG again , just trying to put pressure on the Comets.
They have done that so far , but it has been North Polk with the lead.
Here is a swift kick just to the left goes Cory to pick it up off of a double hop.
Back to it .
Knief lobbing it out.
Ribich trying to get to the ball.
Clean tackle by North Polk .
Could this be a breakaway?
Oh , it is stopped right away .
This is going to go to North Polk.
How about the heads up play there by Gill to stop the ball right in its tracks?
That will bring us to a water break.
18:53 to play here in the first half.
We have a water break.
Is North Polk 1, DCG 0 here on Iowa PBS .
>>> Coming up on the next episode of "Iowa life, " follow a history professor who hiked across the state .
>> And I was mesmerized by these birds.
>> Meat two peacock farmers near Minden.

That and more on the next "Iowa life ."

>> We are a testament to the goodness and the grace of God.
>> Sunday afternoon at one of on Iowa PBS .
>>> Put your pedal to the medal.
This is celebrity Antiques Roadshow.
The hit series with antiques experts and Britain's brightest stars.
Scouring Britain in classic cars , on the hunt for hidden treasures.
>> I love this.
>> The goal to make the biggest profit at auction.
There will be where the winners and famous flops.
Celebrity Antiques Roadshow up only on PBS.
>> Sunday at 6:00 p.m. >>> 1-0 , North Polk after the water break here in the first half.
Don't miss a minute of today's championship action.
The live stream on face the, X, YouTube, and Iowa PBS .org.
I'm here on Iowa PBS .
This is BJ Shea been here from County soccer Park in Des Moines.
It is game three of our state championship Saturday on Iowa PBS , as the action has been high .
It has been hard .
There has been a lot of juice.
Justin, you were saying it is a late for this 2A match.
>> And the three a game, Valley did not come up as the winner, but you are right , somebody has at the fire and the town here, and I'm telling you , Francis Lee will get them going the whole game.
She will be up on that timeline screaming and motivating her players.
However, you look at DCG, they will have the energy here.
They do have a goal and then.
They are panicking a little bit.
They have a quality side.
I just need to get the ball down and play it, just works to their strengths.
>> Dan James the tactician.
You know he is going to get his team back into this one , even though they're only down by a goal.
Good footwork along the near sideline by the Mustangs, Glasgow.
Able to clear it to the middle.
Looking to find the opportunity .
Renz goes to the opening.
Now the lob, the header , redirected out by North Polk.
Right into the box , and touched up , and the official Blewett dad.
>> That was a fabulous delivery from the right-hand side, the right type of ball played.
the goalkeeper Cory and Koudelka.
If Glasgow would have carried on her run, a late run into the penalty area, she might have gotten onto the end of that.
That is the thing .
Trust your teammates.
>> The Mustangs trying to move it forward.
Cyr, I beg your pardon, that is Knief.
She lost the footing on it.
North Polk with the throw .
Boy , the Mustangs not giving up on the ball , but North Polk right there to capitalize.
This is Gill.
Gill with a lob down the field.
A little bit of a breakaway.
The shot.
The keeper came out.
Lots of contacts.
ball.
>> Again, what a bold play for Cyr to run onto.
breakdowns.
Everything was there , but the goalkeeping again , look at this, comes a big.
All it does is have to hit her.
The deflection, enough white jerseys joining the attack.
As the game goes on, it is getting closer and closer for the Mustangs.
>> Now if you are Cory, that is a very risky play .
>> After the save she made earlier , and being flattened in the penalty area from the corner, but she did the right thing, because coming out like that, making a frame as big as possible, the goal looks smaller.
And I can see what Cyr was trying to do, just chip it over her , but she was right there at the right time.
All that timing.
She as in Cory could be the key here for the Comets, especially with this attacking onslaught .
>> A great battle for the ball.
As Renz, still able to hold onto the possession .
Renz not giving up on it.
Now the blast from Glasgow.
>> Wasn't the right type of ball, Glasgow.
Was she trying to shoot?
Was she trying to find her teammate in the penalty area?
It was Renz on the far side.
Boelman on the far side just come into the game, and she could've taken a touch.
That is just a rush of blood to the heads gi being 1-0 down, trying to get back into the game.
>> A good block in the middle.
Again , DCG not giving up on the ball.
North Polk trying valiantly , trying to clear it, unable to happen.
Here come the Mustangs.
Glasgow the past to the middle.
Gets it back on the return .
They will have to do a throw here from the sideline.
This is Glasgow, the junior.
>> Challenges flying all over the place, seeing them getting involved with Koudelka.
I just don't see any of these two teams easing off.
>> How about the gamesmanship by the Comets ?
Take a look at this.
>> Look at that.
Cancel over each other.
>> Emily Johnson got her right hand wrapped around Glasgow and Jesus saying it's on me?
Boy , that is knowing where the vision is , and what you need to do.
>> You will see, already you can see this here in the first half.
Challenges have been going in.
It's already coming up to 30 minutes to go.
It doesn't feel like it.
It's been end-to-end.
It has been exciting like expected.
Challenges going in.
This matchup , when I spoke to Francis Lee, she said she was going into a 3-5-2.
And I haven't seen her team play that.
I said you're going to match them up, and she said yes.
I was like that's confident.
Now I see why.
Player for player, like I said, the matchups are perfect.
>> Bell has not touched the ball too much, but the one time she did was at the 26:07 Mark when she put one into the net for the Comets.
That is the difference here in this 2A championship.
The Mustangs get a call , as bodied on the play.
It will be a free kick here coming up from midfield.
>> Are you sure this isn't a rivalry game?
>> I mean, wow, from two different conferences.
They are about 12 miles apart.
They don't play each other during the regular season, but as I mentioned, the schools have played against one another in date championships before.
And they know each other very well.
A lot of them play club with one another.
Mixed up in all sorts of other different sports and activities.
There is not competitiveness.
We are seeing it on full display.
The Comets trying to as a school avenge that 2023 loss in the state basketball championship.
lot of activity right in the middle.
The Mustangs trying to put it out into space.
The slightest little mistake, you have a feeling , Justin, is going to cost you.
>> Is a will, because the pace in the counterattacks, you have to be quick on the ball.
You have to know where you are going to go with the ball before you receive the ball.
The pitch is bumpy.
>> So Cory going to run up and grab this , and she has had a lot of activity, and has gotten physical from the net.
>> Yeah.
She has been tremendous, brave, commanding the penalty area.
There was one moment where she did not communicate to Koudelka .
>> Meanwhile , the Comets trying to make the most of their opportunities.
Here they go down the field .
Boelman is going to go in the throw from the near sideline.
>> Flinn back in the game, she came in a little bit earlier.
I did like her.
She's aggressive , will work, will run , as she goes to the ground there.
>> Both teams playing for the ball.
We resume .
Boy, inside of 10 minutes to play in the first half.
It has been everything we have thought it would be.
Again, the loan difference, Bell able to break through .
With her left foot, able to give the Comets that 1-0 lead appeared will it stand up?
We have a lot of soccer left.
>> Honestly if it wasn't for Cory, it could be 3-1 right now to the Mustangs.
You have to give credit to your Goalkeepers.
>> Now the free kick for North Polk.
Headed back out .
The Comets trying to keep it inside of the zone .
Could be a little bit of a break-away here.
The Mustangs recover.
Now DCG will go .
Glasgow going to punch it down deep.
Has an opening to the net.
Can she capitalize with the left foot?
>> Penalty.
>> Going to be tripped up and we are going to see a penalty kick.
>> I agree with the referee there.
On that occasion definitely penalty, and here is what Glasgow did really well.
She slowed down in that minute, sought Koudelka come across that moment, play the ball >> So Glasgow will have an opportunity to tie this one up.
She has not taken a penalty kick this year .
>> It looks like it is Knief.
>> Knief , I beg your pardon.
She has taken two and May 2.
What a moment , as the first half clock winds down.
Knief the senior heading to Northern Iowa, an opportunity to try to tie this one up at 1.
Man on man with Cory.
Here we go .
Here is the shot , and we are tied.
>> What a penalty.
A bag of nerves, and Knief took a couple of deep breaths after that whistle was taken.
Took her time to bring the Mustangs back into the game .
I save it, but look at this technique here.
Straight up as well.
Very difficult to take.
A couple of steps technique, great placement, ball in the corner, a difficult one to save.
>> Depending on how this one goes , you have a feeling North Polk is going to put that one and what she did in the back of their mind.
Just to saying.
Tied at 1 here as Knief finds the net .
>> I told you there was going to be another goal.
Cory has done well .
But Glasgow just did so well.
She sought Koudelka coming out of the peripheral on the right.
Koudelka should have just slowed down, Ingold, Ingold -- >> And it looks like they are trying to get the clock adjusted .
>> Four seconds.
>> Yeah.
8:32 instead of 7:36.
So what's a little bit different from high school to college or professional, that clock doesn't continue on.
You don't have extra time.
When you have a stoppage in play , the clock will stop.
>> That's why they stopped the clock just for those reasons.
A great little pick up their.
>> And a heads up move there by the referee.
Able to identify where the time should be.
I'm okay to put more time on the clock.
This is good.
1-1 game.
>> Eight minutes left.
>> Let's see if DCG will try to go back to back here, quick strike.
Similar to what we have seen out of previous teams .
They get you on a goal, and it is the closing minute, or the minute after , what are you going to do before they can put another one up on the board?
DCG again going for a repeat.
To the outside.
>> Playing with confidence right now.
You can see the combinations going forward on the in right here with Ribich.
And again , you just can't afford to give away free?
Around the penalty area.
DCG are extremely dangerous.
As you've seen earlier, they have come close.
The keeper has come up big time here in Cory.
>> So Cory has done a terrific job , now going to be challenged again .
Here is a kick.
They try to go through a wall.
North Polk says no.
The comments are trying to generate some offense now .
As they go ahead to Flinn.
Flinn trying to avoid a hard tackle , touch by DCG.
As they go out, Janssen coming in hard.
>> Janssen went hard there.
Should have come in a bit quicker.
Did enough to get the ball out for a throw in on the touchline here.
>> Played right towards midfield.
The Mustangs able to break through with it.
>> You can see how quickly the white jerseys of the Mustangs are pressing around the ball, trying to get the ball back.
Knief just kicking it out for a throw in.
>> North Polk will have a throwing inside of 6:00 to play here in the opening half.
So, each team with a goal on the board.
>> Cyr just dropped into the midfield just a little bit deeper , making the leap bronze, going forward.
That is the way she is dangerous.
>> If you will , it appears North Polk rocks a little bit since that last call, and they still, I mean, not much pressure on the net if we are looking at it through the entire first half.
Bell able to get that goal, but the Mustangs have been the one who put a lot of pressure on net .
>> The defending on the far side there from Kerr.
Hofbauer has so much pace about her , trying to get the ball past Kerr, but Kerr just shielded the ball.
Did a great job.
>> Here come the Mustangs again.
North Polk will just put that one out of play.
It looks like we're going to see a substitution.
The Mustangs with three players coming in now.
Getting a good rest as Dan James wants to bring in some fresh legs here down the stretch.
This one towards the net.
>> Cyr , just the type of player you want in those types of areas, but again, Cory coming out and commanding her penalty area .
>> So the Mustangs outback .
Tactically trying to move the ball forward .
>> You have Glasgow and Cyr of front as the two strikers .
>> The Comets trying to put some pressure on here , and the punch out by the Mustangs.
>> A fantastic turn by Flinn , right awareness, just turning into the space, but there was Gill coming across.
>> Again , DCG deep.
Played to the side.
The Mustangs will have to throw with 3:00 left to play here in the first half.
Again , trying to go off into the corner.
Here is Cyr.
>> One white shirt in the penalty area, and that is Glasgow.
You have to time your runs.
You get bodies into that penalty area.
>> Knief .
Podey.
Met Ball played up in the air to the Mustangs.
A lot of pressure being applied here by DCG.
Now Cory off of a hop, played cleanly.
No opportunity there for a rebound as Cory , pull that one in surehanded.
>> You can see how this game has settled down now even though we are under 2:00 from half.
And how DCG are pressing higher up the field.
Need to get more players up.
I think they are worried about Flinn.
There is just a disconnect between the back three.
Gill is playing higher up the field as well.
>> Now the throw in.
The Mustangs inside of 90 seconds to play.
The shot.
Cory is going to pick it off of the ground.
>> Gill absolutely streaming forward.
Fantastic run.
A little slalom going past players.
The ball stuck to her foot, but did not quite connect.
>> Cory again under duress.
A lot here late in the first half.
The Comets are just looking for the next opportunity.
Again , the Mustangs have three back and ready to roll.
Boy , and the defensemen look fresh.
>> A nice little flick on their disguise from Cyr.
Janssen with the initial ball in two Cyr.
>> And a little too much by DCG.
>> This is the urgency you will see not just from DCG.
>> A good job by the referee to come in and not issue a yellow card after the extra >> I like that, just a chat with the player, letting them know next time that could be caution.
>> Again , Cory is going to try to run up on this one, and that is going to be it.
The first half complete.
We are right where we started.
North Polk strikes first with Bell , and then Knief the equalizer on the PK.
We are tied at 1 at intermission.

Breakdancing will appear as an Olympic sport as a 21 --2024 Paris the big games.
Let's learn more about this dance dial from a capital city breakdancing organization.
>> >> The first rule of breaking , don't call it breakdancing.
Breaking is a form of dance that is known for having stylized footwork and acrobatic moves, and is one of the four pillars of hip-hop.
The sport originated in the 1970s at a neighborhood party in the Bronx in New York City as hip-hop was coming to life.
The dancers, known as the boys and to be girls, with dance at parties, clubs, and in parks , and eventually became mainstream in the 1980s.
The sport has come a long way in 50 years, and will make its Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris games.
>> We want the same recognition as snowboarders and We want that type of recognition.
>> Welcome to my garage.
This is where Des Moines breakers, which are now DSM breakers first came about.
>> DSM breakers is a nonprofit that aims to offer a safe environment for people to practice the art of breaking through classes, performances, or competitions.
>> It's more than just being physically fit.
Raking comes with the culture and experiences .
The new athletes now are artists.
>> Like gymnastics, breaking is a judge to sport, except there is no rigid points system.
Instead they are scored in their creativity, personality, and tech need.
--Technique.
B boy homey sky is one of the young talents looking to Rays He placed ninth in the team division on the gold tour in 2022, just shy of qualifying for the national team.
Now sky is focused on passing his knowledge and skills to the next generation of rakers.
--Breakers .
>> In breaking there are four fundamental categories.
One is pop lock.
The first one is the way you introduce yourself.
Trust in your body , back, cross, back, cross.
And then, your second element of your set is footwork , and footwork is kind of just more floor oriented .
You are kind of like on instead of on your feet you are mostly using other parts of your body as well.
One, two , three, four, five, six.
Number three, power moves.
Power moves are the more acrobatic moves and the more aerial type of moves.
Four would be friezes.
Friezes are kind of like punctuation.
Creativity and expression goes a long way , especially , everybody is their own person, and I think in being an individual, you should have some uniqueness to yourself.
My uniqueness is I find breaking as a really expressive outlet.
>> Long before there were organized competitions.
The performed in savers, which refers to the circles that breakers enter into to take turns dancing.
>> The music is really , you feel it in your chest.
The base is boom boom boom.
You are kind of in the zone.
You are seeing people younger than you, older than you, same age as you.
And you guys all just come together and under one roof you share yourself.
You share the love , and you share the floor.
I think my biggest inspiration is just the Des Moines area full of all the breakers.
We are just a small state, but we are trying to make it big.
>> So when you think hip-hop, you don't think Iowa , so when we are out traveling to these places, we are making them know , that we are more than just farmland here in Iowa, and that we have a culture here that we embrace it , and we are teaching it to that next generation.
We have made a name in the last two years, and that we are on the map and staying on the map.
>> All right guys, let's give it up for this next generation.
>>> It's a 1-1 state championship match here in Class 2A as we are at the half.
North Polk struck first, Dallas Center-Grimes able to not it up , as it has been action-packed.
We hope that you are enjoying championship Saturday hear from the Iowa girls high school athletic Union at the County soccer Park in Des Moines.
When he first half.
>> Unbelievable beer cans attend likely predicted.
It is sizzling hot outside, and I don't know how these girls are getting through this honestly.
>> They certainly have a lot of motivation trying to win a state championship .
Dallas Center-Grimes trying to win their third in a row , and North Polk trying to bring home their first.
Let's look at the first half highlights is both teams put it out onto the pitch, and Bell with the strike with her left foot.
When a laser.
>> Unbelievable.
Absolute razor.
That was it.
>> And then a PK here for Knief to not it up here >> Brilliance technique, forcing Cory to dive the opposite way.
That was fantastic.
>> Let us take a look at the first test it is?.
You see the shots on goal.
DCG, if there is time of possession on their side of midfield, the Mustangs certainly have owned it.
>> Yes they have.
I spoke about this at halftime.
They need to hold it for as long as possible to try to pull the Comets back three apart , and then Knief has time and space to run into those areas.
>> There is a little bit of a breeze , but it is absolutely perfect here from County Field as we are about ready to get the second half underway .
They 1-1 match, about what you expect it.
>> For halftime.
There is going to be more goals.
I don't think it is going to go to overtime.
I think it's going to be settled right here in the 80.
>> So, here we go.
The second half about ready to get underway.
Each team switching sides.
Again , North Polk just reset , wearing their black uniforms.
They are the top seed overall , with the rent back and white numbers.
DCG , the Mustangs, white uniforms with red lettering.
So , the second half about ready to get underway.
This is our largest crowd of the day by far.
He has absolutely.
I had a feeling it was going to be the largest crowd as we kick off the second half.
Both communities are out here.
We spoke about the goal in the ecstatic roar from the crowd to our left-hand side.
>> Will save the Mustangs try to keep that pace in the second half.
The Comets defense trying to turn it back around and really gain control in this one.
Is again the Mustangs ascended deep, and as she has been most of the game , Cory strong.
>> It looks like Bell has gone down and that challenge .
>> And that is not good for North Polk.
We mentioned Bell being bothered by a bad ankle.
>> It was a crunching tackle .
>> So that stop as head coach Checking her out, trying to get her up on her feet.
And she is favoring her right leg now.
>> Hopefully Bell is going to be okay.
Did come into the game carrying an injury and scored a cracking goal.
Is it worth continuing playing is the question.
Do you want to make it worse and then sit on out further down the line for 3 to 4 weeks pickets for the school.
I know she wants to play.
>> So Podey will now come in for Bell.
And it will be a goal kick here coming up for North Polk .
We are back in play.
Cory will put it in play right at midfield.
Now if you are North Polk you have to look for goalscoring.
We mentioned Bell the top goal scorer on the season, but Flinn replicator with 15 , and Ollendike with 13 coming into this state championship match.
>> Flinn is in right now.
Both of them are upfront.
Just looking at how DCG are placed, they have the back three very deep.
Gill into Renz just sitting in front, but the gap between them and the back three is 20 yards.
I like the fact that you've got Boelman and Flinn playing high on the two center backs out of the three, but they need to get an additional player higher up , just in between the lines , to be able to get on the half turf to receive the ball.
They also need to play , as you can see Bergstrom in our nearside in jersey number 11 that you play , but sacrificed it from I've been to make the central areas as compact as possible , because the Comets know what the Mustangs are like.
And it looks like the Mustangs have a corner.
>> Really forcing the issue.
The corner kick coming up for the comments.
This will be Ollendike , the junior has 10 assists on the season.
Will be ready to launch.
>> Will be dangerous with the left foot.
>> Ollendike, strong leg , to much out in front and here come the Mustangs looking to run it back the other way.
Could be a break-away.
Now they stretch the field.
Cyr trying to center the past.
Knief, and the mess on the ball has Cyr battling for position.
The lakes get tied up.
The foul is going to be called and this is against DCG and Cyr.
>> Koudelka missed hitting the ball here with Cyr putting pressure on her.
Cyr did well to shield it, going down to the ground.
Now Koudelka going down.
Could've gone either way to be honest with you, because Koudelka is going into the back of Cyr.
>> How dangerous would that have been.
A free kick coming up for DCG.
That deep.
>> We know what they are like as well.
That is the ball they need.
>> There was a law that ahead.
The comet running with Boelman pitcher of the defense by Hofbauer.
Boelman will get it back.
And then try to center it.
Missed the Mustang , trying to get another corner kick.
And picking it up is going to be Torsky.
>> Hofbauer has to be careful.
She nearly committed a foul on Boelman.
Boelman had the angle , tried to turn back on her left to get to the byline.
Then made another decision.
>> Back this way, Cyr with the past.
Forsyth at it for the moment.
Now the deep blast.
It's going to be wide right, a little high.
>> Forsyth did not really have the angle to cut it back under her right foot.
The run on the far side was definitely on.
That ball should've gone.
Knief taking from the midfield , she plays the attacking role on the left-hand side.
They should play the ball into her stride and then carried on her forward run.
>> Now Koudelka the free kick from the goal.
>> Still power and strength in the midfield.
That's going to be the key as well as winning the midfield battles.
>> Cyr coming up gingerly on that last play.
Again the Comets trying to push it forward.
Bergstrom's centering pass comes up on the far right to Kerr.
Kerr trying to make an attempt.
Goes wide right.
>> Kerr was forced right there by Janssen.
Janssen did really well forcing Kerr out wide.
That was never going to be a Kerr should have just brought the ball back, rebuild, recycle, and that is what I would like to see more of .
Shooting from those angles, that has to be something special under that amount of pressure.
>> So DCG at midfield .
Again , North Polk will get it back.
Eight 1-1 match just getting the second half underway from County Park.
This by the way the last half of soccer here at County Park for a little while as the tournament is moving to Ames next year.
It has been in muscadine, Des Moines, now aims now next year.
Going to be held at Iowa State University, and what a time it has been here at County Park.
North Polk .
Again they keep it in play , but right to the Mustangs.
>> Renz is in the right place, receiving the ball from her sister, Riley.
Janssen , brilliant positioning covering the space so Hofbauer --Flinn cannot break through.
just has to collect the past.
There is the forward run from Knief.
Look at that.
>> There she is towards the net.
Knief with left foot to right , shot wide and high.
Boy, that is something she is going to be thinking about .
>> Why did she not pass to Forsyth ?
Decision made.
The forward writer is what I spoke about.
Great ball out wide .
Fantastic boot out wide to Glasgow.
Forward run.
The chances there , screaming for the ball the penalty area, just on the six yard box on the line.
Promising moments.
Promising moments.
>> Jostling in midfield by both.
1-1 your score here about 10 minutes into the late half.
Of course the top goal scorer for North Polk if you are in and out of coverage, shame on you, but Bell scored the game's only goal for North Polk , out now with an injury.
As now the official sorts out traffic >> Gill stepping in, tremendous getting out front.
Flinn has to be aware of the pressure coming in from behind.
>> On the third game that they've played, each team has played this week, and one thing that had coach Dan James says as he is very confident his team won't be outworked whether it be in the weight room or on the field.
A lot of time, effort, and energy , and this is where you have to take.
This attempt goes high the partially deflected.
North Polk.
>> Can't clear the lines.
>> Can't clear the lines.
Now this shot , can't be batted down by Cory , and the Mustangs still control it.
How about Cory making the play for North Polk.
>> Absolutely fantastic.
>> Been under duress for most of the game.
The Comets try to turn around the other way.
Boelman with a big blast.
>> A big moment in the game .
>> A bevy of activity.
>> Glasgow did not realize how much space she had.
Checking her shoulder with press coming in.
And tanned action here.
>> Each team measured offensively.
This header , and it is into the net.
The Mustangs take the lead, Glasgow with the header.
>> The first goal I've seen with a header this week.
Absolutely fantastic.
It is brave .
It would take a lot to beat Cory .
Renz I believe with the assist.
Guess.
What a ball.
First time header.
That move there from Glasgow getting inside Koudelka.
Inverted run.
Look at that driven ball in.
That's what it takes.
Not much power on the header.
It was just guided into the bottom corner.
The great technique off of the head.
Cory could not do much about that.
>> Glasgow with her fourth goal on the season gives the Mustangs a 2-1 lead .
How about that.
Now North Polk for the second time in the state tournament , their backs against the wall, down by a goal here.
>> Talk about games won in the midfield.
her .
Allowed her to deliver the ball into the penalty area.
>> Again , trying to go for a three-peat , North Polk trying to win their first-ever state soccer title.
The last time they were in the championship was back in 2019.
Had the one goal lead.
Dallas Center-Grimes able to answer it.
Here is an opportunity.
Too much time.
The defense closed down on North Polk.
Avery Bird might have missed an opportunity .
Now as they put it back into play with Kerr.
That is going to be out on North Polk.
>> Emily Johnson the creator , threading the past through to Avery Bird.
Avery Bird just taking one too many touches.
The back line covered the space, protected the space.
There was pressure on the ball.
Janssen came across, but that chance was on for Avery Bird earlier.
>> And DCG going to their bench .
Trying to again get more fresh legs in .
They have a one goal lead they are trying to protect.
An opportunity here for Renz again .
Boy, just down deep on in to the corner.
And North Polk will have to do a throw here.
Towards the middle , and now we are going to see a corner.
>> Gill just coming across .
>> North Polk has been dangerous this year from the corner.
as Ollendike will line it up.
And look at that crowd.
Ollendike .
Gazing into that son .
Now the shot.
The pass heading back out.
And Torsky able to get her head on it as it turns out to be a run out the other way.
This will be man on man, the past just missed, but it is still there.
With it is Cyr.
Cyr , going to the outside.
Now tries to center it.
Boy , the Comets able to get back.
That was a breakout for the Mustangs.
>> Counterattacked, nobody in their space.
When that ball was cleared the Torsky did well just to punch the ball clear of the penalty area.
That counterattack was on.
Off to the races with Knief.
She had three white shirts to her right hand side at pace , and this is what it is about.
They still have the energy to go here what a beautiful flick around the corner.
>> Now Knief, centering pass.
Just wide.
Well defended on the play as the Mustangs hold it in with Hofbauer.
Finally the Comets are able to clear it out of the box.
>> Gill doing their job in the midfield, just holding their own in front of the back three.
>> The official going to call for time as the Mustangs will go back to their bench.
As they try again to get fresh legs.
Hofbauer and Cyr.
He make it looks like Forsyth has come back in.
Mills .
Also coming in for Dallas Center-Grimes .
On the right-hand side.
, Replacing Hofbauer , player for player.
Players alike, positional, not tactical.
She also has pace, has Mills.
Covered I gave the other day.
You take off Hofbauer and you put Mills in, you are getting the same type of player , except Mills is slightly taller, but both very athletic.
>> Again the Comets without the services of Bell, out early on in the second half with an injury.
Trying to figure out how can they get one in the net to tie this one up.
Stays in play.
Johnson.
Off into the corner.
>> Johnson has no support out there, including cover from DCG.
>> Johnson's row going to be played up high.
Held by Bergstrom for the moment.
Here come the Mustangs, another opportunity to break it out , but coming out from net, Cory .
Let's go back the other way.
Again, the Mustangs and Comets, what a battle.
Dallas Center-Grimes up 2-1 , coming from behind.
Fell down early 1-0.
Clean play , we will move on.
>> Knief and Koudelka going in for the challenge.
Knief winning the ball.
Gill is doing her job with Renz in front of the back three .
>> This will be turned over to the Mustangs.
And again , Dan James going to his bench.
You see a good look at Williamson .
She will be doing the chores to throw it in as Knief we'll go out.
Williamson, her dad is actually in charge of the hype video .
One thing Dan James said is that it is a close knit group with this Mustangs squad, and Williamson , and in fact their T- shirts this year, the fan T- shirts are all pink, and it is actually on the back of those T- shirts, it is an honor , Williamson's mother who has been battling breast cancer.
They surprised her prior to the quarterfinal match with those specifically designed T-shirts for her mom.
And the team was all about that.
Right now they have a one goal lead, and they are trying to add a little bit more.
>> Koudelka coming across .
They've now gone up front.
It's a quick change for Forsyth.
She has gone off again.
The freshman that was just added today .
>> What an opportunity to get added to the roster on championship Saturday.
And if you play for Dan James and you are on the roster, you are going to play.
>> Providing the opportunity, late additions to the roster, just because of the depth .
>> Yeah, and there is the T- shirt.
You saw it just a moment ago with Williamson's mom .
It's on the lower right-hand corner.
And all part of it.
Now a free kick here after the penalty on the Mustangs.
So, the Comets , again , trying to figure out what do you do.
Now the key thing is, in that regional final in which Bell had injured her ankle, they figured it out.
Can they do it here though in the championship game.
This is a foot race to the ball.
Trying to get to it is Bird , but he does keep it in?
No, going to be ruled out.
So a goal kick here for Dallas Center-Grimes .
And it looks like we are going to be at our water break.
20:18 to play.
The Mustangs with a 2-1 lead here on North Polk.

On a sun splashed afternoon , Dallas Center-Grimes trying to win their third in a row .
Standing in their way, North Polk .
The Mustangs with a 2-1 lead , as they were able to punch one here in the second half , as Glasgow was able to get the header at the 29:44 Mark .
And the Mustangs looking for more.
They are hungry.
Again , physical play.
And slow to get up .
>> Koudelka has been through the wars, yeah.
>> They are getting up on their own.
Boelman might've been the one that initiated the contact.
>> I thought it was a fair shoulder to shoulder challenge.
Good pressure from Renz .

The Comets need to push players forward .

>> No doubt in my mind that Francis Lee will have a few tricks up her sleeve.
>> Tactically what do they need to do here?
>> They've got to get more players forward.
Now is the time, down the middle is not working.
Because Gill and Renz are playing with absolute courage and confidence.
Nothing is really happening there.
They need to use the wits .
They need to use a rebirth in the middle as a target player.
She's coming out wide, too much running , where she could stay in the middle.
Push the numbers forward, but talk about get your heels on the touchline.
See if you can pull the three center backs apart, Renz, Janssen , but then Gill and Renz might actually just drop in a bit deeper.
It is their role to cover the space if one of the left center backs are right center backs goes out, but they need to get more players.
They've only got two.
There are four players right now, three at the back.
You go Gill in front, so four versus two really.
So five versus two.
You really have to commit players forward.
>> Here is Glasgow.
Big battle on the ball.
And the Comets come away with it .
>> Good decision from the referee.
Koudelka does get into some physical confrontations.
She has had a few around the penalty area.
>> Here is a shot, and how about that?
Glasgow , her second goal of the championship match.
>> Glasgow with two goals, earning the penalty in the first half for Knief to finish.
What a fantastic goal.
All the work done, onto her left foot.
No pressure.
It will take something special to beat Cory , over her head as she's a few yards off of her line, but those are the type of aerial balls that are really difficult for Goalkeepers.
Look at that from Glasgow, that little pop celebration.
>> And so Dallas Center-Grimes , Dan James and company.
Going for their third straight state title , take a two goal advantage.
As North Polk tries to find a way here , and it is going to be an uphill battle down the stretch.
>> Nothing to lose.
They have to go all hands on deck.
Now they have to push forward.
If you look at of your pitcher here, there are three players at the back , you might as well commit them .
Get Koudelka up there.
Tyrrel up there.
I don't know why Koudelka is taking the corner .
She is six feet tall.
They need those types of players in the penalty area.
>> Koudelka from the corner.
Left it short.
Headed back out.
Koudelka trying to track it back down.
>> Gill with a sublime header out of the penalty area.
>> Here is Belle.
Again, DCG, a white jersey right on top of it.
This is going to roll out and go to the Mustangs.
>> Entry ball they are initially into Avery Bird.
What a fantastic .
Did not quite connect the ball on her back foot.
could've been dangerous.
Did not quite get it.
Williamson in, strong, carrying the lines.
North Polk are going through it now.
It's only a two goal lead.
We have seen this before , but there is too much quality in player management.
The Mustangs.
>> Here is a shot , picked up on a hop by Torsky.
>> It it was Gill putting pressure on her again .
Having an absolute fantastic game here.
>> We have time here as a substitution.
>> Putting your body on the line, Gill.
She has been tremendous.
Not a lot of credit goes to players that put in the work.
She is intercepting the past, driving forward, always looking to play forward to creating for her teammates.
All around effort here as well.
>> Ollendike coming in for Nemmers .
Two goal lead.
Again for Dallas Center-Grimes .
Cory will come up and make a play on it.
Here come the Mustangs again .
Don't have the numbers.
North Polk able to turn it around .
Justin, the Mustangs playing a lot of players back now trying to preserve this championship.
>> This is what Dan will do now.
He does it all the time.
He did it in the quarterfinals.
He will play the two holding midfielders in Renz and Gill just a little bit deeper in front of the back three , but again if you have a look, you only have the two forwards there for the Comets that are playing a little bit higher in Podey and Avery Bird.
Need to get more players forward.
Just not enough.
Not with the quality that the Mustangs have come of the physical presence.
Renz again.
Look at this, so easy.
Now they can switch players.
They have technical players at the back.
Now, they are just forcing the Comets to run across the field.
It's a lot of energy.
They have to press with numbers.
Now there are the extra players.
You can see now with Cyr.
>> Cyr at had an opportunity.
The ball is free towards the net , and it is another goal for Dallas Center-Grimes .
That goal came from the patients at the back .
The ball out to Janssen played across the field.
Absolutely brilliant.
The center back caught out of position.
Too far forward , in behind , and Forsyth , the senior , latching onto that and want to finish.
Look at that ball played in.
commitment from the center back going to early, miscommunication between the defender and the goalkeeper.
Composure with the finish into the opposite corner.
>> The future Grand View Viking with her 10th goal on the season.
And now the Mustangs have four unanswered goals have blown this one open.
>> The center back coming into the space, they should have held the line playing with the back three.
You can't really be doing that, but again it is the patients and the buildup.
>> Is again Dan James goes to the bench , Hofbauer will check out.
12:33 to play.
Again, making the most opportunities, North Polk playing up.
Created some isolation along that backline.
Cory will have to come up and that one .
So back to it.
North Polk and DCG always on the prowl .
Cyr was looking again.
And again a tough play turned it right around.
That's Renz.
>> Renz has had a tremendous game today .
Kept it simple.
Played the position well .
>> Mustangs again just trying to spread the field with this three-goal lead.
Make the Comets play chase.
>> This is when they suggest keep the ball now , work the Comets out of possession across the field.
>> Coming into the game, DCG, one of those new added players to the roster .
Coming in is Leah, the freshman seeing some action here.
>> What an opportunity.
Absolutely brilliant.
Freshman , part of this squad that has been together for years.
We've seen them come through over the last 3 to 4 years .
>> Just some tired legs out there , not the track that Balltown as it is out in space.
Here is Renz.
The Comets try to clear it.
It is held back in the zone.
Now we are seeing it just stretched out entirely.
>> There are more white jerseys and dark jerseys around the ball.
Just keep the ball now.
They have the quality, the Mustangs Eric they don't need to give the ball away leaving --Reading 4-1 .
Knief coming back into the game.
>> Again, both teams working there bench, Ware the senior , during the 9:00 mark to play here in the Class 2A state championship.
What a title game .
The school's first-ever title as a best .
Denver today 1-0.
2-0, excuse me.
three a championship, Bettendorf a winner over the Valley Tigers by a mark of 3-1.
And is now Dallas Center-Grimes trying to put together a three- peat .
Think about it, other teams that have been able to three-peat , you have to go back to Cedar Rapids Xavier.
They won eight in a row from 2006 to 2013.
Assumption , pulled off a hat trick twice from 2011 to 2014, and then again from 2016 to 2021.
Keep in mind, 2020 was a COVID year.
And Annette Lewis Central from 2016 to 2018.
Then Valley from 2005 to 2008.
It's tough to do , but what a class of seniors these Mustangs Even in their freshman year they were close.
But what a feat.
Like a three time state champ .
>> Four years ago they lost in the final .
Dan James was building his roster, and then after that, nothing much stopping them.
>> They play them in the state championship three straight years.
As part of this , as each team clearing out the benches , Nemmers will return along with ahead.
>> It looks like it is opportunities for some of the players, Boelman coming in .
Number 4.
We will clarify the third additional change.
Boelman .
As you mentioned , you can see now the legs are tired.
The Comets are tired.
>> They are just going to play out the string as they say.
The Mustangs facing adversary , getting down the goal, then getting the PK adult Knief.
Then Glasgow with back to back goals, but it was Glasgow who really set up that penalty .
She was fouled deep inside the box even the Mustangs still hungry.
Here is a shot and another one will go in.
This time by Knief.
Her second.
>> Renz with a flat driven ball diaconal out to the far side of the penalty area, and there was Hofbauer receiving, taking that ball down.
What a fantastic across, and with the late run into the penalty area, look at that from Knief.
Did not even need to take a touch .
All about the delivery.
Not picked up was Knief by anybody from the Comets to finish off.
>> Three different scorers today, and how about that line, Forsyth with a goal.
You have Knief with a couple , Glasgow with two .
The second half , four goals here by Dallas Center-Grimes late in the half.
>> We spoke about IIIa last year.
I think it was the first time the Johnson boys and the Johnson women in the history of the school have won both.
This is the first time in 2A, or do we class it as a whole group?
What would you call this?
Would you say 2A ?
>> Yeah.
>> So I think it is the first time.
>> The boys winning it earlier today in Des Moines.
With her championship trophy in the end zone.
And the girls program ready to DCG back to there bench .
5:00 to go.
A little keepaway here .
Also into the game for the Mustangs.
North Polk just wanting to get the ball cleared .
>> Their legs are tired from all the running, the pressure .
>> Is here we go .
Mustangs trying to play it out and get the win here.
And get their third straight state title , as they are in fine form.
>> In fact the emotions running high for both of these two schools.
He mentioned they are not rivals until they get to the postseason.
They somehow find a way to play one another, whether it be in soccer or other sports.
As you take a look at that Mustangs bench.
>> They are just going to wind the clock down here in the corner, but maybe not.
Knief.
back.
>> Here is another shot and another goal.
How about this, Dallas Center- Grimes , Knief, the sophomore , strikes it.
6-1 Mustangs.
>> The floodgates have opened up here.
When you think Forsyth is going to keep that ball in the corner, no, that Meg, cutback, first time, Knief, great technique across her body , there is nothing that Cory could do about that.
>> A watershed moment here for Dallas Center-Grimes , as they are putting it on in big fashion here with 3:28 to play.
Knief with the goal.
Here we go.
An opportunity for the Comets.
This shot is going to be hauled in by Torsky.
>> Against the run of play.
>> Avery Bird with a run out.
The clock continues to down here.
So , the Mustangs, again this was tied up at 1.
North Polk took the early lead, but six unanswered goals by Dallas Center-Grimes .
>> I told you there would be goals in this game.
DCG, they just had the extra energy, playing strategically, positioned in the correct places .
I spoke about the Comets going in the middle in central areas.
It was congested with the Mustangs.
He should have looked to possibly go around.
The Mustangs are just so strong physically , athletically .
They will press you all game.
He meant what he championship week here.
In County Park in Des Moines, hosting the girls state championships over the last several years, and they have done it right.
This is kind of a quaint setting for state championship soccer.
>> I love it.
I think it is fantastic here yeah, the fields are beaten up.
They were still getting the quality out there.
The matches have been quality the whole week.
You know you have the boys playing as well on the alternate days.
It has been brilliant.
The field, it is absolutely destroyed out there, but you know what, the girls are out there competing.
We have had seven goals in this game.
I think I can remember the last time we have had Evan goals.
>> In a state championship.
>> Not in a state championship.
We've possibly had 4-3, it has been closed.
As they will kill time.
But you know , deservedly the Mustangs have come through with this.
>> Of course next year the host site is going to be in Ames Iowa, at Iowa State University.
It should be fun.
What a weekend what a way to cap it off.
Dallas Center-Grimes, again, history made all day .
The one a title game and the IIIa championship , Bettendorf winning their first since 1988.
That is when this all got darted as a sanctions port for the Iowa high school girls athletic Union.
And now here is DCG joining the ranks of others as part of a three-peat , and they did it in big fashion >> Well I will tell you what, everybody is going to be awake in the DCG area tonight.
Downtown, the school possibly , they will get a hero's welcome , both teams, the boys and girls.
brilliant for them deservedly in the 2A.
I'm going to steer clear of the area.
>> We want to remind you we have the all tournament team and the trophy presentation happening .
Dallas Center- Grimes , your three-peat champion , as they win the Class 2A title.
>> Look at the celebrations.
Absolutely brilliant.
This is what it's all about.
Off they go to the goal line to celebrate with the boys team.
>> So , the Mustangs win their third in a row here in Class 2A.
How about Dan James.
You can't stop his program right now .
It took him 20 years to win his first.
Now they have won three in a row.
>> The superstitions of Dan James, I have noticed that every single final he wears the same camo pants.
>> On a mission.
And certainly the Mustangs live up to that , 6-1 a dominant performance.
>> Definitely on a mission.
They did the training at the beginning of the year.
Let's give credit to Francis Lee and her girls out there.
They battled.
They really did well coming through in their third season making the final.
we have not seen the last of Francis Lee and the Comets.
They will be back.
She will get them rallied together.
They tell you what, she will tell them, just remember how this feels , and then we will be back again.
>> So it is time now to unveil the all tournament team.
Let's turn it over to the public address announcer, Rex Baker.
>> Now we are ready.
Let's go back to Rex Baker.
>> T-shirts are being handed out.
As we wait it out now.
Let's go to Rex Baker.
>> We would like to direct your attention to the field for the awards presentation.
Presenting the awards are members of the Board of Directors, Robin Zach, along with staff , and Ashley and Ben Smiley.

Absolutely fantastic.
Impactful in this game.
Deservedly so .
>> Sister cannot getting into the scoring action as well , late, and there is your all tournament team for Class 2A .
Scarves and all.
What memorabilia.
of these players to be recognized here at the end of the state championships.
The game direction here to take an all tournament team pitcher.
Lots of talent out there.
>> Lots of talent.
In that group, definitely , but look at the smiles, the happiness, obviously with the DCG players .
Knief with a great goal and a break in the midfield that she spoke about.
So much talent.
I would love to see the 2A selection take on the one a and the IIIa.
>> Head coach Francis Lee.
>> In addition to receiving the dalliance, each player will receive a commemorative soccerball resented by the Iowa Farm Bureau.
And now, your 2024 Class 2A champions, the Mustangs of Dallas Center-Grimes , and head coach Dan James.
>> What a way to cap off the season for Dallas Center- Grimes.
Only four of her schools have done a three-peat , as the Mustangs win their third straight state championship in big fashion , 6-1 today.
>> Deservedly so.
They deserved it all the way through the tournament.
They scored four goals in the quarterfinal 1 in the semi finals, and 6 here in the final.
A credit to the Comets.
They worked hard.
They will be back next year at some stage.
But congratulations to Dan James and his team.
cap it off.
For the in tire crew, so long here.
The Mustangs win it 6-1.
